This is what i started with, removed the radio and saw this behind. Just a bunch of wires, crimps and electric tap which made me worry.

Later, after following the wires, i was very fortunate to have only the speaker wires cut.

There was no way i could get a solder in there, too little wires and too close to the plug (i live in an apartment, no cable long enough to use an electric soldering iron, butane portable one was too risky for me).

Ended up using connectors and using shrink wrap to prevent any contact, basically taking the speaker wires directly from the harness back to the plug.

Everything fitted nicely, E36 adapter that came with the radio is a 100% bolt on and even the pins are correct.

The unit is not 100% secure, i have an extra set of clips to hold it in place, will deal with that later, fit and finish looks great.

So far, no static, no signs of connection issues, but i really want to replace that manual antenna in the rear to an E36 style one to get better reception.

Reinstalled the radio. Installed by the PO. Looked like a kid installed it. I didn’t take a picture of what it looked like but here it is now. Next is new infinity speakers that just arrived.

    No e30s, again :(
I like infinity speakers. I had them in my 89 325i, back in the day. they are nice speakers.

my youngest son and I started working on the superE. we painted the grills and mirrors back to black. he vacuumed it out and we have been driving it around the neighborhood to work on any kinks. I ordered a master and slave cylinder so we can fix the clutch pedal issue and then after that, I think we might have to replace the steering gearbox because its hard turning right but normal turning left.

after that, off to inspection and daily driving by my son, probably. I will probably be driving the s10
    No e30s again.

What did you do to your E30 today?

Went from terrible red to faded raisin back to proper cardinal on my sun faded rear interior vinyl. The dye/paint from World Upholstery is an exact match and wears well.

Almost finished. Had to order a new latch release. It disintegrated when I pulled it to release the top lid.

Installed a new coolant pump in the 91, with the previous one lasting 71,000 miles before leaking too much for my liking. Unlike other horror stories of these pumps getting stuck, mine came out really easy.

Just disconnected my mid pipe from the headers and that was a couple hour excursion. Next is to drop the drive shaft and tranny to replace all the transmission seals, rear main and rebuild my shifter.

Discovered some oil seepage on the driver's side of the block, right on where the "bitch tube" sits under the intake, sleeping onto the block. Looks like the large intake gasket (the one with 3 holes one piece) is not sealing correctly allowing the blow by to leak.

Funny, i have done so many smoke tests, no smoke from the engine bay, all out the muffler and now i see this. Looks like i need to remove the intake, replace the gaskets and tube o-rings.....not to mention replacing the coolant.

Sounds like a good opportunity to repaint the manifold!

Installed the new speakers. Started with the rears (non-premium in rear of cabriolets) made a huge difference in sound quality. I installed the front kick panels (premium speakers) and was somewhat disappointed. Like most 5 1/4 speakers, little bass. I put the premium speakers back in and am quite happy. One was a new speaker while the other was original. I read many posts on how good the bass was in the BMW speakers but didn't believe it. Overall sound is good.

False alarm actually, turned out to be some cable grease i sprayed the entire underside and mechanical parts of the car with. Some of the grease was sprayed upwards, and made it look like some manifold leak.

Besides, i do not like painting engine items, or calipers. I like the zinc plating to show off the metal.

I had the same color combo vert that I sold in Virginia in 2012. Missing it hard lately.

I learned yesterday afternoon that I have to replace the motor mounts and probably transmission mounts.

the kids said the car was dying and felt weird so I popped the hood to look and sure enough, the arms are barely sitting on the rubber part of the mount from moving to the driver's side during (probably hard) acceleration.

I love cardinal. I had that in the past and liked how it looks versus some of the other interior colors

Removed the rear subframe, diff to replace bushings. While i am in there, I painted the subframe, trailing arms, and midpipe. Used Rustolem BBQ ultra statin black spray paint. Turned out much better that i thought. Bought Stainless Steel exhaust from ebay. Had to go cheaper and take a chance on ebay because i already spent $$$ on other parts. It is basically the ireland engineering clone. Replacing the rear bearings, brake lines (i found one of the hard lines crushed somehow and another the nut was fused to old soft line). Braided steel lines all around. Putting in short shifter with garagistic dssr. Replacing the gear shift seal. Now i know why they called the "bitch clip". Stuff still to do: new driveshaft going in, new radiator, hoses, upgrading to t-icv and simplifying vacuum hoses. Trying to eliminate vacuum leak.

Indirectly worked on my car today, by telling my 4 year old son how to replace the window crank and handing him the tools.
I just watched him replace it, and when I asked if he wanted me to check his work, he told me that it was good so I didn’t. Yay
