About to start testing the whole fuel system.
Getting 2.6 bar with engine on idle, 3.0 bar with bypassing the relay.
Once the engine is off, fuel pressure drops right away. New pump, injectors, FPR and lines.....time to see what is leaking. I have a feeling injector 5 is leaking, if it is, i will be disappointed, since 1/3 of all new parts i purchased for my 325i lasted only 3-4 months before they failed. Quality today is rubbish compared to the 80s.
Testing fuel pressure (running way rich). 2.6 bar with engine off and relay jumpered, 80psi engine running.

Purchased it. Buying an 87 325ic 5 speed. Hope to have it in my garage in about a week.
Plug wires finally got here, they look good! From Turner Motorsports.

Well, was yesterday, but started the rear rotors and pads. Not good:
uh...
Amazon sent me the wrong rotors, so my buddy is going to have to finish the job.
Just started a thread about the car. Not a great story unfortunately...
Fixed window motor on passenger side. It didn't work because of froze up bearing.

My '86 325e moved under it's own power, first time in fourteen years. Clutch and brakes work great! Still work to do to get it running smooth but it is running!

great news /\
No e30s again.
I started this thread eleven years ago, and I gotta tell ya, I'm just tickled that it's pinned to the top of the forum and still going strong.

PS-- Wrecked the E30 three years ago. Came back to sell some parts.
1992 325iC ... 3.25 LSD, Bilsteins, Borla. Otherwise stock.

Wrestling with the fuel system, put in a pump, I got a defect. Clean tank, new fuel filter, blew out all the lines, Waiting on a new pump, putting in new plugs and detailing the engine compartment while I wait.
Changed the coils and spark plugs today. What a difference in power..! Exhaust note also went from really messy to very smooth.
I changed the valve cover- and spark plug hole gaskets recently, and I didn't have the above mentioned things readily available at that time.
There was a lot of oil mess that was in the spark plug holes due to the bad gaskets which fouled the connections between the coils and the plugs.
*yay*
(For the confused: it's an M52 engine)
I did a seats-out steam-cleaning of the carpet.
hood strut, no more bumps on the head. Trunk strut, no more 2x4 in the trunk, Amazing operation there. Convertible top lid(?) struts. spark plugs, the old ones were gaped at like 040 from wear I guess, runs way smoother now. New speakers wires and head unit(technically yesterday). Drove through winding country roads with the top down
On the 91, unofficially crossed the 300,000 mile mark (odometer gears were broke for ~7350 miles -- that's repaired).

Fixed the third brake light on my cabrio. Replaced the old circuit board with one from a coupe that wasn’t corroded. Works perfectly.
Replaced the valve cover gasket and the four spark plug hole gaskets. Spent some extra time cleaning out oil from #1 and #2 spark plug holes.

Oil service + filter and oil pan gasket.
Removing the gasket was straight forward, lifted the engine from the transmission, but no matter how high i jacked it up, the oil pump was always in the way.
Eventually, removed the pump, dropped in the pan and it was done.
Cleaned everything very nicely, noticed a shit ton of gouges and scratches from the PO's workshop. So i applied a very thin film of 300c sealing compound on the block mating surface and the pan (to hold the gasket and to ensure a good seal). Oil pump removed, strained cleaned (lots of silicon from PO goodness). Torqued it back in, used an engine hoist to lift the engine AND an engine jack to lower the subframe, only way i could get enough clearance to slide the pan underneath without touching and mounted everything. Double checked torque, fresh oil + filter, cranked the engine for 10 seconds 3 times (with a pause not to overheat the starter) with the coil plug removed to make sure oil is circulating and pressure.
SI batteries are shot, service light will not reset (yes, fuses are sound).
Sofar, everything looks good, no leaks....will see tomorrow.
Finding out things about my '86 325e. I'm taking engine out and while taking shielding off of driveshaft I discovered I have two gas tanks! Now I understand why there would be an internal pump, to move from right (fill) tank to the left (supply) tank where the external pump sends to motor. I wonder if that internal pump was working?

Replaced the radiator with a Nissens brand unit and did an oil and filter change at an unofficial 301,020 mile mark.

Resolved a front suspension "pop" noise by tightening my sway bar links that I installed a few weeks ago, ordered a new Supersprint exhaust and some brake pads
Changed the manual transmission and rear differential fluids. 17mm bolts for the transmission, 14mm Allen socket for the differential bolts.

Got very luck installing a new continental brand radio, the supplied adapter bolts on directly (it was sold as an E36 adapter but my E30 is a late model, i rolled the dice hoping it would fit).
Connections are perfect, adapter wise to factory harness.
Now, the old radio (Blaupunkt) had some crazy wiring in there, crimps and an inline fuse....i almost bitch slapped myself for this headache. Looking closer, it was only the speaker wires cut off the main plug, re-routed into one hell of a mess. There is just enough wire on the back of the plug to splice and solder (carefully) directly back into the harness. For testing i used crimp connections to be sure, the new radio also uses the same speaker outputs, lucky for a 3rd time they do.
So tomorrow, some very careful soldering with a portable iron, will post pics.
Hello my fellow e30 owners... First time on here but no time like the present.
This last weekend I sold my e30 Touring for a pair of e30 verts and some cash. The saga continues...
I had a wonderful time restoring this one while I was in Germany and had to bring it back with me. It is always sad to see a project go but I am ready for the challenge of rebuilding the two new guests.
I snapped a picture of all three in the drive before we loaded it up and sent her to a new home.
They both come with problems the Black one had no power to anything. Already got her up and running just need to chase down a rough idle. The Green one came with a possible Head Gasket leak. Got her drained and ready for a block test this weekend and we'll see what's really going on inside.
They are both very complete so this should be a fun rebuild...
