Installed a new water pump (timing belt and idler while I was in there) because it was, I think, leaking. I put everything back together only to have it still leak. Took everything back apart again and have ordered another gasket for try #2. I am hoping it isn't, if even possible, the head gasket at the front of the block or the freeze plug under the cam sprocket.

    M42 engine swap

Hey Im new to forums and i do not know where to ask this but ill just go ahead. I bought a 1984 318i with an M10 obviously. But i threw a rod and now i want to do a swap (on a budget). SO i did some research and found that the easiest and cheapest swap is an m42. Found a guy on CL selling a 1995 M42 and it has around 200k miles on it. Im kinda of concerned about the mileage but idk how well these run. can anybody shed some light on this? thanks

You might want to try this link for more info on the m42 https://www.google.com/search?q=bmw+...w=1200&bih=530

I managed to install new light bulbs in my hvac panel, somehow I lost the lighting on my 6 button clock panel tho, waiting for new bulbs in the mail. They worked before I took everything apart and now they don’t, so I’m stressed out about it.

Four victories today with the 91. Had no gauges except speedometer, no blower, no reverse lights, blown fuse 10. On another BMW forum, someone mentioned pulling the K5/K7 unloader relays, and a new fuse 10 held. Subbed in some salvage yard relays with good results, and the blower motor works again as well.

After an unsuccessful effort replacing the odometer gears on an eBay VDO speedometer, used the Garagistic odometer gears to repair my Motometer speedometer and that worked. As a bonus, reset the steering wheel so it's not cocked when driving straight ahead, and secured it with a new nyloc 22 mm nut torqued to 58 ft-lbs.

Installed black door pulls and map pockets for the 2 tone look and love the change. Also installed some US ellipsoids. Very productive.

    No e30s, again :(
yesterday after work: pulled the trans on the two door, for the second time. learned I didn't set the torque converter correctly so pump is dead in that trans. dug out spare trans from garage and hung it on the engine.

today after work: install starter, drive shaft, exhaust, heat shields and hopefully drive it around.

tomorrow after work: pull auto trans and block from four door, pull standard trans from parts car. bolt standard to spare engine and prepare to install in four door.

after that, we are supposed to have rain till sunday so probably nothing will get done till than

New to me 1984 325e. Very well maintained mechanically and a Conforti chip for about 145 hp. Silver paint is shot, however. So...got out the clay bar, rubbing compound and liquid Meguier's wax. Lot of imperfections remain, but at least they are shiny now.

    cool

I never made it through all of my previous list.
got to the drive it around aprt and it started slipping after about 10 mins of driving so we changed fluid and drove some more. the nastiest junk is coming out in the fluid.

still have pull block/trans from four door but the temp dropped into the 40s so that isn't going to happen till the temps go back into the 60s, or higher

Just about to finish installing a third brake light in my 84 325e. Bit of trial and error finding the hot lead to the drivers side brake light, to tap into. Read somewhere that third brake lights became standard on e30's in 1986.

dang, I have not updated this in a while.

two door white car got inspected and registration and is being used again. I did order new rear wheel bearings for it though.

four door is waiting for delivery of replacement head so new gaskets, timing belt, head, etc will go on once the head shows up

also, the two door got a cup holder installed from the guy on rev that makes the wire one that sticks out to the passenger side. it works fine

new head is installed on four door. still need to hook up some lines and install the radiator and fill it. the two door got a valve body from the spare trans and runs great. I ordered a new upper seat frame for the passenger sport seat to fix it, in the two door. i think that's everything. the two door needs an alignment, for some weird reason. ever since the place aligned it, it is twitchy while moving, like its toe'd in to much, and when you hit the brakes it pulls left so i have to figure that out.

i am going to order slotted front and rear rotors for both cars though, and new pads. and i am thinking of doing coil overs on both too. you can't get one kid one thing and leave the other out, you know?

ok, finished the four door up last night at cruised the neighborhood with my youngest son (that car is being built for him, he is about to be 15). we are going to do an oil change and figure out why the temp sensor is pegged and then it will be ready to roll. it was so nice to cruise it around again. and jarrod loves it because kids at his school and the junior high recognize the e30. his brother dropped him off the other day, in his two door, and a few kids commented to jarrod what a cool car that was.

Chasing a high idle in my 84 325e concurrently with shooting the lower side valences, originally black, with body color silver which I think will make my lowly e appear a little more sporty. That's the ideal, anyway

Is the wiring of an 87' BMW 325i and '88 325i the same? If not, what's the difference?

My son and i put new bearings in the trailing arms. And one new cv assembly. The bearings sucked at first because the all thread i used for the puller stripped. We moved up from 3/8 to 1/2 all thread and didn't have any issues from then on so after up sizing, we have built our bearing remover kit and have it set aside for future use. 3" pvc was used as the stand off to set the plates on and some different aized washers to fit the out race and allow the all thread to pull against.

For all the complaining i read about doing those, it was super easy. It was way easier than doing the rear sub frame to unibody bushings, that is for sure.

I still have to do the stupid freeze plug on the other e30 though. Maybe tomorrow?

Still no reverse on the one we did the bearings on. Odd, i don't know why, it just left. Now we just park whete we can pull through till we are bored enough to put the 5 speed in
