If your e30 runs bad, switch to Megasquirt first. Then try new spark plugs, cap and rotor, wires, oxygen sensor, crank shaft position sensor, coolant temp sensor, air flow meter, idle control valve, throttle position sensor, digital motor electronics unit, harmonic balancer, fuel injectors, engine harness...
replace instrument cluster bulb to led

Decided it was time to do the valves and timing belt so i decided to take this rare splash guard off to access crank pulley 4 bolt per side and 2 are hidden inside the side fender..

We just bought an '87 325 last week, alpine white and very clean and all original interior, seats still good and dash still in tact. It runs pretty good but has some hot start issues and wot isn't as strong as it should be.
ive got exhaust, dist cap/rotor, breather hose, valve cover gasket, efi temp sensor ordered so that'll be next week.
today was clay bar and wax and a couple nice drives. I owned a '91 325i from '95-2003, took it to over 300k miles and every day since I sold it I looked forward to getting another one. My son is 15 and he's learning to drive a 5 speed E30 and I couldn't be happier.
Not all done today obviously but installed new rear subframe bushings, new oem rear control arms and bushings and also got the h&r sport springs and new shocks installed.. absolutely feels like a new car.. so quiet inside and the h&r sports are such a nice compromise between lowering it and stiffening it up a bit without being too harsh for daily driving. Next thing is to get the idle issue solved. Sorry for the iPhone only picture but I figured it's better than nothing..
*also I know my tires are too small but that's what the euroweaves came with and they're brand new so I'm just gonna roll with them for now*

I just walked my son through the fuel filter replacement. After a test drive we can't claim that it improved the power delivery but I think the filter was original to the car. I poured it out into a bucket and the gas came out almost black.
our search for the original power band up to red line continues. The brown truck will be bringing an exhaust, temp sensor, and breather tube tomorrow, then the real work begins.
Big day.
New Exhaust (stock)
coolant temp sensor
cap and rotor
valve adjustment and clean out the valve cover
new valve cover breather hose
throttle position sensor adjusted, idle position works but I can't get the wot position to work.
i got a fuel pressure tester but haven't used it yet
ive read where kershaw takes apart the throttle position sensor? I see it can split apart but I was afraid to bust the welded plastic seam. I think I may order a new one and then break down the old one to see how it works....I'm still not getting the full power at wot, I can feel it surging/oscillating at approx. a 1 second cycle.
I don't think I ever took a TPS apart. JLevie recommends drilling a small hole in the center so that oil can leak out and not clog it. Here's a good thread to read on the matter. http://spece30.com/forum/41-electric...ur-afm-and-tps

Thank you, I guessed wrong, it was you or J, apologies.
thanks for the link
ups brought the timing belt kit and water pump today, that'll be next week sometime.

Well, we did:
timing belt
water pump
Coolant flush
did the work yesterday but filled and hopefully bled the cooling system today. Just took it for a spin and all seems right.
still getting the surging. When I hold my throttle steady the engine pulses up and down ~50rpm maybe. Also happens during acceleration, slight up and down pulses and I have no idea why. I'm also getting a hissing sound coming from the dash under acceleration, makes me wonder if I need to lube the speedo or something like that?
I looked at the bottom and determined I need a sheet of 48x24x1/4" aluminum to make a skid plate. Home Depot / Lowes do not carry that size.

It's interesting you say that, i was looking at dock plates on Amazon earlier for that reason. They come in very sturdy thicknesses. But I also have a Metal Supermarket less than a mile from my house, so I'm going to try that place first.

Installed a new hood shock. Incredible how much the old owner neglected her.. SAD.

,Yesterday I installed a new sunroof seal. It was much easier than I expected. Now I can hear the rear diff singing, which is okay. The A/C doesn't work so having the windows open covers up the diff noise so all is good for now.
