Exclamation Windshield Washer Jet Replacement (Update)

For those of you reading one of my other threads, I have a passenger side washer jet out on my car. I bought the part from BMW for like $4 (the thing that sticks up out of the hood to actually spray). I also got the driver's side one because they are both in bad condition (spotted on the black part).

So my friend and I, Eric, pop open the hood. We undo most of the screws into the insulation on the interior of the hood, pulling it out of the way to get to the jets.

For those that don't know what squirting fluid onto your windshild requires, this is how it works.

Container with all your cleaning fluid in it
    connects to
    hose
    connects to
hose splitter (so you have one hose becoming two - driver and passenger)
each hose connects to a seperate
'white thingy' in the shame of an L
    connects to
    black sprayer

So, we go to disconnect the driver's side sprayer (old) from the white thing. After hard pulling the sprayer disconnects, leaving part of it lodged in the hose (it is fatter on the end so it will stay in the white part tight). Great. So it takes us forever to lodge this one broken off piece out, using needle nose plyers, flat nose plyers, and a vise grip. The flat nose and a lot of hand strength eventually popped it out. Phew!

So we pop the new one in, test it, works fine (shoots over the car, fixed it later).

We do the passenger side one, same thing, pop the sprayer from the white thing (it didn't break off though). Replaced it really quick and reconnect it. We go to test it. Dribble dribble... it was doing the same as before! It just dribbles onto the hood! Gah!

So we disconnect the hose (there is a clamp around the hose) from the white piece and then the white piece from the sprayer. Connect the hose directly to the sprayer...

it works. Flies WAY over the hood and dribbles onto the hood, however, it does shoot. We have our culprit - the white 'thing' is the malfunctioning piece, not the sprayer as BMW told me. I'll be out of town most of the day tomorrow so my bud is running over there to get a replacement, hopefully this is all we need.

I took a couple of pictures on a roll of film (film sat in 90 degree car for 7 hours today though...) on the install. Hope they come out good and I'll post them so you people don't have to by 'white piece', etc :.

1.5 hours so far (good 30-45 minutes was getting the broken piece out, however). Hopefully 30 minutes tomorrow and I'll be done!

Note- I also have a list from the dealer of recalls I need done. I have the #s, is there any way to check what these are for?

I took mine out the other day to give them a blast with the airline - mine had wires going to them too - does this mean they are the winter pack heated jets?

The car has no other winter pack bits (headlight wash etc)... Kinda confused me a bit... (not hard!)

Sounds like it to me, mine have no wires - 95 318is. There is just the the black jet (squirter), white L shaped piece of plastic, and the hose with a clamp. I'd say yours are heated.

This is on a 93 325i coupe... All I know is they spent at least 50% of the time being blocked

    Try dissolving the blockage

What I used to do on my Acura for the blocked squiters was to soak them in vinegar overnight. The vinegar dissolved whatever deposit was causing the block and my sprayers worked like new. Can't hurt to try it this way to save a few bucks.

    Lightbulb INFO for You

Yes if you have wires coming out off the washer nozzels and provided they are connected then you have the heated washer option.

The White things that you talk about are the non-return valves this is so water can squirt out but air cannot be sucked back in. If one off these is faulty then it usually affects the other one. :

I thought you had the extra tank etc if you had that... Oh well, things still block up, even if they do get hot

    Talking Finally!!!

Finally finished yesterday! The white part was $7.08 I believe. Popped it on, plugged the hose back up (still need to put that clamp on, oops). Works great. Thanks God!

I wish the sun would come out so I could wash and wax my baby.

Hehe bought some premium Exxon gas last night for $1.39... wow, everywhere else around here is charging $1.39 for Plus Gas.... my kitty likes it :
