View Full Version : how can you tell if the odometer reading has been tricked?
I'm in search for another 525i, I saw one a 94' and the odometer reading is quite low 50k km only, I will ask for the service records and everything when I will inspect it. But what I want to know is there any clues or hints that the odometer reading has been tricked? Thanks!

What you need to do is check the engine bay. If the engine bay is clean still, its a very good indication that the car is still relatively new. Normal wear parts can also be found under the car. The amount of damage to the underside will tell you how long its been on the road.
But in PI you never know about the odometer, it might be from another car wrecked at 50km.
I've also owned cars that perform better at high mileage than the same exact chassis and engine size. Best thing to do it carefully inspect it throughout and drive it.

at 50K, most parts such as radiator hoses, clamps, ignition wires, belts etc are still the original parts it came with. Engine bay should be in prestine condition, unless...
only way to know if mileage had been altered or swapped is to pull the cluster and check the brown plug on the back and check for any indications of memory being swapped out.
50k km in PI, I think its possible. Maybe the car wasn't driven much. In that case the car should be great condition in and out.
how much is he asking?
btw. I'm Filipino, if you haven't noticed ^. Kumusta na kayo diyan? Tigasaan ka?
Oh, and WELCOME!
Thanks guys! I'm from Mandaluyong City bro, ok lang d2, kaso sobrang init ngayon! Gusto ng owner 450k, kaso mukhang wlang service recs, isa pa fabric lng yng interiors so medyo doubtful ako. Gusto ko sana US specs kaso mahirap makahanp d2 s atin, tapos bihira ang 1st owner at enthusiasts na owner d2. So far how's your ride? Thanks!

450k, with that kind of money you can buy a brand new japanese car there. But i know, nothing like a bimmer, right? And I would think they are hard to find there, at least the older models like the E34s.
So where you able to look at car yet? Like what was said, if the odometer is real the engine bay should be in prestine condition.
btw, are bimmers there Euro spec? Fabric interior? wow that's hard to come by here.
thanks for asking, I love my car.
Actually I will not pursue with that unit anymore coz it has no service records. Yeah mostly all 5ers here are euro specs, mostly 8 out of 10, only few has the fabric interiors. So it's quite hard to find one(US specs). And few euro specs here also has sunroof as the only options included. Anyways I'll be putting some upgrade on my car w/c I'm enjoying pretty much right now! As for the ride of my family, that's where the Japanese cars comes in e.g. CRV... keep in touch from time to time bro, Thanks!
