This guy put a lower geared diff in his 97 M3, so in turn he sold me his old 3.23 lsd with 110k on it for 170 bucks today! Installed it in around 4-5 hours, wasn't counting, and feels a lot more responsive around corners and just plain moves quicker now. Originally I thought I had a 3.15 lsd sport installed in my car, as it has the sport springs on it, turns out it was an open 3.15, I just had never jacked it up and spun the tires to find out. Just thought i'de share my recent deal with you guys.

And a pic for views.

that is a great deal i paid about $350 for mine but as you now know LSD is pricless i would also use some 75-140 with friction mod if you havent already

Nah, low on funds at the moment, I just changed the fluid to royal purple 75w-90 lsd gear oil for now instead, seems to be working well enough.
Oh, and if anyone around portland/vancouver needs an open 3.15 diff in good shape, let me know.

Nice...that much difference huh? I was wondering if I should go 3.38 or 3.46 ($$$) but 3.23's are definitely easier to come by.

the gearing is a plus but the added traction is why i did it

I would imagine I would go with a 3.38 as well, but I couldn't pass up this deal if I wanted to. But yeah the 3.23 feels a lot more torquier and comes out of corners with more snap, from what i've seen in the short period I've had it installed.

i really cant think of a better upgrade for the non-m's. better acceleration and higher corner exit speeds? yes please.

^^I know. I currently have an s50 with Schricks. I upgraded almost everything on the car....but I left the diff for last. Hmmm..... :)

Awesome buy man, I'm in Vancouver too, I have seen hundreds of bimmers but not yours, Lol.

Yeah I did the install myself with the help of a DIY on this forum, very helpful and it took about 4-5 hours. I live in Hazle Dell, I've only had the car about a month, so keep lookin. I work by the mall at America's tire Company also, so you might see me over there.

Wow, it's _so_ tempting to swap mine out, especially since it's almost entirely unbolted now while I do my rear suspension... All that's left holding it in are the drive shaft bolts!

If only I had the $$$... :(

The 3.23 is awesome, IMO. I put one in my 328 a few months ago. I think it is a really good compromise between performance and practicality because the change in performance is really noticeable and the drop in fuel economy isn't too bad. My car dropped from 22 mpg to 18-19 mpg for the first few tanks of gas, but now that I'm used to the change and not flooring it at every green light, I'm averaging 21. :)

What about your RPMs -- it doesn't stay up at like 5K or anything @ highway speeds does it? That would be my only concern as I have the 4spd auto.
