If you are serious you would need a rolling road for starters

I too am a 5 time (and other Manufacturer and Specialty) ASE Certified Auto Mechanic who owned/operated/staffed my own successful garage. But truth be told... what I Don't Know about BMW's could fill a book a big as what I do! That IS a big book either way... but I learn new things every day and with every car I work on! I've been reading my Bentley Manual(s) (and other BMW tech books) like bibles for the last few months, reading and talking with serious and informative people here including BMW STEP Program grads and techs.. asking questions anytime something new comes up... and have learned MOUNTAINS of new info!
As a fellow experienced (former Professional) mechanic (who could and has also built GM and MOPAR motors up from a block-and drag cars of my own) I would recomend either attending the STEP program (It's Never Too Late!) or other vocational program/workshops dedicated to BMW and/or Foreign Auto's, or just reading here (and other forums ie: E38.org for one). I also used ALLDATA in my garage and had access to the (NAPA) Mitchell program, and dozens of fellow shop owner/mechanics both foreign and domestic, which provided great information to me when needed. Getting to know (and trust) others in the trade doesn't hurt either. Any of the higher end BMW computer or computer software is also readily available... so take a look around and see what others use and what might be the best Bang-For-The-Buck! So, despite their high prices.. You could also look into these programs for your business.
I would also recomend joining the BMW Car Club of America (Here's The Link (http://www.bwmcca.org/)) and/or another local BMW club or BMW CCA Chapter. I made some great contacts over the years when local indy's, club members, would offer free "Tech Days" for members. A good way to meet a BMW (or other) Specialist, make a Go-To connection, and learn new things too.
Keep "Us" posted and Good Luck with your business!
