I really dislike what I believe is called the brake start-off assistant. It's the brake feature that keeps your car's brakes engaged when you're at a stand still. This is annoying as hell. I thought this feature was supposed to help when you're stopped at an incline and thus prevent your car from rolling back, which is a perfectly fine and good thing. There are no hills or inclines near Chicago and yet this thing is almost always engaged at rest. When you lift your foot off the brake pedal is makes the car jump ahead as if you got rear ended (Slight exaggeration). It also prevents you from moving the car just a tiny bit. So if I stop in my garage and then want to move up a couple inches, I have to watch the brakes because the release is very abrupt and intrusive. This is not an isolated problem with my car. It is a standard feature. My previous 2006 e90 did the same thing. I wonder if the dealer can disengage this function?

That is pretty annoying. Everytime I am at a stoplight, before I am on the gas and disengage the brake, the car definately jumps forward a bit. Works pretty well on an incline though.

You just need to get used to it, believe me. All e9x have the same feature and I can move my car in my garage even a few inches, I have a small garage, so many times I need to move in inches not feet to get more room to move around the car. Give it time and practice and you won't even notice it is there.
Forgot to ask, do you guys have AT or MT?

AT, which I think adds to the problem.Trust me I have been driving these cars a long time and there is no getting used to it or perfecting it so to speak. It's not like a MT where it is mainly up to your control and driving abilities. I know MT is the way to go but had to settle for this due to my wife.

I am a first time bimmer owner, but what if you just let up easily on the brake before launch? Might this help?

It could be the AT takes much more finesse or is more twitchy, no such issues with the MT. Keep experimenting, maybe you'll enlighten all with the best way to beat it :). Try GreenThree's suggestion. If I get to testdrive the 335 soon, I may try the AT and see what that feels like.

This problem must be associated to AT only, I havn't a clue as to what you are describing.

My biggest dislikes.....cheap looking rearview mirror (whats up the red knob) and the useless automatic window wipers ....oh and the 2.5 inch front wheel gap (Xi)....and thats it...pretty small really

OK, we can let this one go, it is closer to the end of the sig. Its always been there! LOL. But the OP did not have a sig, so completely relevant question :)
I have something new to try on the way home tonight. I will let you guys know what I come up with.

The red knob (aka clown nose) is only useful if you have the optional alarm which makes it blink when armed, otherwise I agree, it looks out of place, but I stopped noticing it after a couple of days.
The auto wipers work great unless your wipers get worn out then they start to go nuts from time to time like yest. in my case. Never had a problem with them before, but the blades are now in bad shape and seem to be confusing the sensor. I will be taking my car in soon to get the oil service so I will get them replaced (at my dime here in Canada unlike the US) and see if my theory holds water (I think it will).
The wheel gap on the xi is easy to solve, don't get the x-drive version ;) (just teasing).

I though that "clown nose" thingy on my car was jammed. When I would twist the red knob on my old E39, the rear view mirror would tilt upwards to prevent bright light from distracting me. All it does with this bimmer is blink

Do you have auto dim rvm?

I think so. I've noticed it dim before. I'll pay attention to it some more next time I am driving at night. I just need my car back now lol BMW has it for maintenance and such. They are also going to deliver it to me since it is going to be difficult for me to pick it up. Niello BMW = Great Service

The auto wipers have no rhyme or reason to their frequency. They will go non-stop when its light rain, then they take like 15 seconds when its raining hard, and thier speed varies. One minute they will go like they are on low, then they slow down like they are off, and this is without any change in the rain. Just weird and not a big deal, just prefer the "old school" self adjusting wipers, as in myself adjusting the frequency. As for the wheel gap, Im looking for a good way to lower my car, dont need that extra gap in my current climate.

My auto wipers work perfect. I had to figure out that I had to press the button on the side of the stalk and not use the lever before they worked right.
The mini police light from Dragnet is pretty stupid looking.
The hill hold feature works great on MT, don't know why they have it on AT...really makes no sense.

The hill hold is no problem at all for manual, its actually very convenient.

With the auto dim, the tilt function on the rvm is considered redundant and thus absent. I only miss it when I want to check on my little one in the child seat behind which is not easy with the default rvm position.

Lol I love when I realize I'm not the only one with minor issues, and that they are model wide.
I find that if I'm in a small enclosure, I let off the brake very very lightly and it doesn't do that silly pull forward rear-end thing.

Solved. Just let off the brake slowly. This makes a noticable difference. I tried it on the way home last night, and on the way to work this AM, and the jumping forward problem no longer exists.
This was not an issue so much for me driving because I can obviously anticipate when I am going to gas it. For the passengers I felt bad though. I was driving with a full house over the weekened, and I felt like their necks were almost snapping due to the brake jump, er, I mean that was when I punched the gas. LOL
Anyways, hopefully the ride will be more comfortable for all now. Cheers

Thank you! I totally agree. They absolutely suck, but everyone in here seems to love them.

It's been said...yes. But I will just agree that the start-off assist is great on the MT - I wouldn't think they would even put that on an auto. Huh.
The auto wipers are growing on me...but only a little.
