Hi everyone, i have a bit of a problem. I went to start my car this afternoon and it did not want to crank. She started/ran perfectly fine two days before. Anyhow long story short, I think the chip in the key has been erased. Is that even possible? I remember leaving my keys next to the T.V. the other day; It sat right next to the speakers. So im thinking it was erased because of the magnet. Has this ever happened to anyone?

I did the ewsII bypass and got the engine to crank but it will not start... probably becasue the dme is not talking to the ews, But this proved to me that the ignition switch, starter and whatnot are working. I had an extra anttenna ring and ews transmitter as well, but still had no sucess. Im having so much trouble with my e36, but i love it still...

so again is it even possible for the chip to loose its information due to magnetism? i want to know so i can plan my next move.

that shouldnt have erased the key. Is there a reason why you beleive it is definatly the key?

Aww another EWS story. I hate EWS...(yes it's a good security measure but) it's a fucking pain in the ass. I just hope I never have any problems with it on my 328. I've never heard of a key being erased but I :dunno.

yeah I've been through a lot because of the ews system. Do your self a favor and buy new keys and store it in a safe place.

everything points to the ews; the car was left untouched for two days. I bypassed the clutch switch as well, that still didnt work. I'll look into the dme and see if its damaged.
