I am totally new, so please pardon my ignorance of some of the terms. I may be interested in some mods. What exactly is a CAI ? I have a 540 if it makes a difference.

cold air intake. Free's up the breathing a little and sound really nice at WOT (wide open throttle).

Thanks for the great pics. Right after I posted my question "What is a CAI" , I figured out what the abbr. stood for. DUH. Sorry, a bit slow that day.
Are there any reliable measurements on the HP difference with one of these on a 540 ? It seems the factory intake already comes from the grill area, but it may be a bit restricted.
My experience with these type things is usually a waste of money.
The 540 piece looks interesting as it still ducts air in from the outside, not the engine compartment where the air is hot. Where does the filter go?
Anyone have any evidence that supports gains. If so, I am in.
Also. I have read up on the computer chip upgrade that are available. I have the auto, so it seems there is an upgrade chip for that as well (from a couple mfgs). Any positive (or negative) experiences for the 540 ??

probably one of the most reliable ways to check changes in HP, whenever adding a mod is to dyno on the same machine.
