Alright, I'm stumped. I tried to start my 1994 e36 after sitting idle for a couple of weeks. Battery was completely dead. Tried to open the trunk to charge it but, the trunk won't open. What do you do? Trunk was opening fine before battery died.
Thanks in advance.

I investigated that possibility but, am not sure how to hook up. Don't want to blow any fuses and such. Can you give me details on hooking up? Thanks

Pasenger side of the engine compartment, you should see 2 posts... one marked + the other -. Just use those. But seriously, just using your key should work here. Do you only have the valet key or something?

For all those who suggested that I use the key, I assure you my IQ is north of three digits. The trunk will not open with the key. The key used to work. Does not work now. The key will turn in the lock but, pushing on the button results in nothing. I have opened this trunk many times in my cross country trips.
As to hooking up the charger underneath the hood, I saw the plus post but, no negative. I tried just hooking up somewhere on the frame but, my charger starting acting strange and I stopped.

Thank you fishforlife for the USEFUL information. The actuator arm popping out may well be what happened. Just a concidence perhaps that it happened at the same time that the battery died. We shall see.

Use the front engine hook by the vanos as a ground.

The + terminal under the hood is well marked. the - terminal is just a grounding post. There is one located near the + terminal on the frame between the strut tower and the firewall. You can actually use any exposed part of the frame as a ground, but it's good practice to use an actual post.

Thanks guys for the info on where to ground. Messing with it today, I found a suitable ground and the battery is charging as I write.
