I love my xi (except the front wheel gap) but I also bought mine thinkin I was gonna be driving it in Buffalo, NY snow not the desert portion of Washington State. Performance is practically the same, and has been argued over and over and over and over and over again. xi plus 1. The thing will sling shot off the line like you would not believe..... xi minus 1. wheel gap 2. $$ If it came down to it again, and seeing how I live where there is little snow fall, I would order the i

Wheel gap = The space between the top of the tire and the bottom of the fender above it. Used in a sentence: Lowering your car reduces "wheel gap". :)

I also considered the differences and decided to buy a 335i and budget for for snow tires/wheels.

As long as you keep in mind that a 335i with good snow tires will easily out-drive a 335xi with all-seasons in almost any condition or incline, then you're in a good place to make an informed decision. Now, a 335xi with good snow tires will be better still, although AWD does nothing for braking performance.

Edit: You're from Athens, Greece? Or Athens, Georgia? Either way, not much in the way of inclement weather there! :-)

I would bet my savings account a xi with all seasons will out perform an i with snow tires on in the snow... hands down. Shit my xi is better in the snow with its high performance summer tires on it than my Altima SER was with snow's on it, and the nissan is front wheel drive. The xi is amazing in bad weather conditions. BTW AWD does matter when it comes to breaking in snow or ice if done right, especially if its MT.

I guess you missed the part about how x-drive does nothing to help with your braking performance which is what really matters. Don't give me the usual bit about accelerating to avoid an accident, when you hit the brakes you want to avoid skidding so x-drive doesn't help there, but then this is off topic so let's carry on.

My money would still be on the xi with all seasons, and seeing how ive driven my xi with summer tires on, an i with winter tires on it and a Altima SER with snow tires on it in the snow, Im pretty sure I have some experience in this matter (Let alone being from Buffalo, NY) The only thing I havent driven is an xi with all seasons in the snow. Thats why I said MY money would be on the xi

You keep missing the point. I will bet my house against your house now that a 335i with snow tires will stop shorter than a 335xi with all season tires on snow/ice. Is that a bet you are willing to accept?
You also forget that we have a winter twice as long as Buffalo here and twice colder and probably more than twice snowier, so I'd say I have twice your experience in snow if not more ;).

Bonds 25: You're arguing with two Canadians here. A+ for effort, but on this particular topic, you just can't possibly win. :-)

Anyhow, I think the OP from Greece has left the building.

I just read your thread, and I am in the same boat.... wondering about xi vs i (cabrio). Even if in braking there's no diff, wouldn't the 4 wheel drive provide much more control turning, cornering and overall off the line traction vs a RWD? I'm a noob.

It really depends on road & road conditions. AWD adds weight and BMW 50/50 weight distribution provides excellent cornering so less help needed from AWD. Audi won lots of titles w/ Quattro but believe those were off road races. Add rain or snow and answer will vary as well.

is the wheel gap on the XI bigger than on the I? because of front differential?

Whats difference in 0-60 and quarter mile times between the XI and the I?

I think it is just because of the xi being considered an all weather vehicle so they assume the extra clearance is beneficial for the targeted audience. I believe there are people who lower their xi no problem.
