RDM3 has set up a possible GB with Cartech on their intercooler kit for supercharged E36's. I am posting this to help stir up a little interest...

My point is it would cost even less if one person could just go out and but the right size intercooler and then buy the mandrel piping and have it cut and bended to make it fit and then just repeat it

But first,I would like to see some more pics of their kit installed in a car and hear from at least one person that has the kit .
Hi,
Drop an email to Preston at Cartech and let us know what he says

I would be in for this instead of the oil cooler but I would like to see more pics of the kit installed, and would want to know if anything needs to be relocated for this to fit.

The power steering resevoir needs to be relocated and the aluminum bumper needs to be trimmed. We can add the resevoir relocation kit to the GB if there's enough interest.
You can see installaiton pictures here:

Would a good BMW mechanic be able to relocate the power steering resevoir without the kit? What is in the kit and how much more would the kit cost? How much of the bumper needs to be trimmed?
Thanks

Yes. Any good BMW mechanic can do this. It is easier with the relocation kit but it's not absolutely required. All that is inthe kit is revised lines (as in the pictures). Additional cost would be around $95. Bumper trimming is harder to describe but you can see it clearly in the pictures. Basically the top and bottom horizontal pieces of the bumper are trimmed.

Im a little confused. The picture of the intercooler is different than the picture on cartech's website. The one on rhine west is black and aluminum while cartechs is all aluminum?

I sent an email to Rhinewest about their kit and a possible GB. Here is the response and possible GB pricing. I think we would be hard pressed to get 10 because the price is so steep. I personally am leaning towards the RW setup because it's so complete...
Bob,
Thank you for your interest.
Our kit is a little more extensive in comparison to the Cartech kit. Both
kits contain the same plumbing, intercoolers, silicone hoses and T-bolt
clamps, but our kit addresses the other items needed for a clean and
reliable installation. We include the diverter valves, idle-valve hoses,
crankcase-vent hoses, power steering relocation kit, bumper, pulleys,
instructions and most importantly, the software.
The kit is extremely complicated to install so we recommend installation by
someone experienced in the installation or fabrication of turbo kits.
Additionally we feel the variants in car configuration (traction control,
supercharger type) are more conducive to installations at our shop. This not
only gives us a chance to ensure the quality of the installation, but also
allows us to perform before and after dyno runs to make sure the intercooler
and software are functioning as designed.
In our testing we saw a pattern of clutch failures in cars that generate
more than 375 hp. A more aggressive clutch needs to be installed in cars
equipped with intercooler kits. We recommend the Sachs motor sport clutch.
Our pricing structure for a group buys begins with a minimum order of ten
intercoolers with a 10% discount, and as the number of orders increase, the
discount percentage rises one to one (order to percentage point) until the
maximum discount of 20% is reached.

Just to make sure people are clear on the difference between RW and Cartech. Our offerings are setup differently and priced differently because we are not trying to compete with each other. This system was developed with RW's valuable help. RW is not really interested in piece-mealing the system. We only began offering the FMIC setup ourselves after several customers requested less expensive alternatives which exlcuded parts they did not want. We are only trying to assist the customers that would otherwise not have a solution if they did not buy the system from RW.

We generally powder coat the tanks of all of our BMW intercoolers. That picture was taken of an intercooler that went on a customers car who requested no powder coating.
