Gauge install questions

Does anyone know if I can tap into the wire brown/red tracer wire that goes from the temp gauge sensor to the DME (ECU) in order to regulate my VDO temp gauge? It seems that the signal from the existing sensor should be right for the VDO. I also bought the VDO sending unit just in case.

NO! Don't do this. Follow link below to 'housing' that slips inline with the upper radiator hose. It's set up for the VDO sender, and the sender is only like $12. Its a waaaaay better solution to tapping the ECU, and besides that, temp senders work off of ohms. If the ohms of the BMW sender don't match what the gauge needs, the readings will be off. I believe VDO and BMW use WAY diferent ohm values. So the reading would be inacurate anyways.

So did that link make sense then? I manufactured my own, because the ones I WAS looking at were $50+. But then I found that and I was pissed! $25! I spent almost that much making my own, I do have more features, but I would have bought the one in the link if I had known about it then.

Yeah. I am ordering one up :) I worried b/c on my MAC the site said it was not registered and may be unsafe. I talked with Todd at TCD and he knows him. I am going to order a few things from there. Thanks!!!
