I just installed a new gauge cluster into my E36 and my epic mileage turned into the car it came from (~190k something). How the hell do I get my mileage back?!? It's like the only thing that makes my car special.:(

Cheers!

lol I am going for a record, and I want it back. I know that the car holds the mileage in two places (the cluster and the computer), but how do I transfer the mileage from the computer to the cluster?

Not sure but look if you can disasemble the mileage box thing from your old cluster and swap it into your new one.

I was thinking that. That's prob the route I'm going to go if this is a dealer-only task.

I think there's a chip or something that is removable in case of situations like this. You just swap the chips between clusters. Once you do that I think the odometer tamper light will be on and then you can use the hidden menus on the odometer display to pick the higher mileage, then the tamper light goes away. Something along those lines....look into that.

BTW, if you don't mind me asking, why did you get a new cluster? How much was it and where'd you get it?

My old cluster's tach gage decided to add 5k RPM to no matter what it was really at, and the temp gage (prob the most important one) was completely broken. My autobody found it from a 94' 325is for $30

There is something on the back of the cluster called "coding plug" which in some clusters (depends of the year) can be put in the new one. It is in the back of the cluster. Check the Bentley manual.

That's what I was thinking of, couldn't remember the real name for it...
