tranny problem?

Just started the other day, when I downshift of shift into 2nd gear 80% of the time it will grind loud and pop out of 2nd right when I let of the clutch? What is the problem? 2nd gear going? Or something to do with the clutch?

Sounds like it could be bad tranny mounts to me or bad bushing in the shift linkage, shift arm, etc. When you are putting it into 2nd it doesn't go all the way in so when the engine tries to put a load on it the engine forces the car out of gear because the gear isn't fully engaged. Is there a lot of shifter play?

Yes, it has a decent amount of play to the shifter....hmmmm will have to check it out.
