I have a 318ti 1.9l m44 engine, that keeps blowing the 15amp fuse for the clock. when it goes, the fuel guage, temp guage go haywire and the idle control valve runs continually and is unusually audible. i have removed the clock but the fuse keeps blowing. I have asked several BMW independent dealers , but they have not come across the problem. Anybody shed any light?

If you dont have an original radio in your car it would be worth taking it out and having a look at the wiring behind it

had the radio out, but the wiring is in good condition. when the fuse is replaced, it can be ok for a few days or blow pretty quickly. The problem with the temp would seem to be the lack of earth when the fuse goes, as when braking it seems to earth via the brake switch & gives a more normal reading, the fuel gauge however doesn't alter
