View Full Version : rim bolt material?

I'm refinishing my style5 bolts and I'm wondering what they are made out of. I plan on polishing them up, but if they are just steel they'll rust right? So if that is the case I should clear coat them as well, but if they are stainless steel or something I'm thinking they'll be fine just polished.... Can anybody help?

Oh I can help alright! I just got done refinishing my style 19's a few months ago. I left the lips and bolts bare, with just polish, and the bolts look like complete ass after 1 winter. They are steel, and will rust in a very short amount of time. I am going to have to take all of them apart again and redo them. This time I am going to have the bolts and lips powdercoated in a clear. I’ve heard that clear coat paint does not hold up well, but that is probably better than nothing. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>

Ahhh, my fear confirmed lol, Thanks for your help, I will definitely get them cleared in something after polishing. Clear powdercoat is a great Idea, thank you :-)

I actually just finished cleaning the last 6 of them about 5 minutes ago, they look good so far, can't wait to see how they polish up, but damn, it takes forever to do all those bolts :eyecrazy
