I suppose some of you know this. It was certainly news to me.
After the shitty Hartford insurance company tried to fu** me on my totaled 1997 528i, I got this in the report for my total loss;
The following is a RECALL that I never new about....
affecting 1997-2001 BMW 518i anf 540i bodies.
NHTSA ID: 04V183000 Issued: / /20 No of vehicles: 25,270
Suspension:Front on certain passenger Vehicles, due to
long exposures to certain environmental and operating
conditions, the material structure of the front Spring strut
plate could be affected. In some cases, the strut plate could
begin to crack, and eventually it could break. If this
occurred, the plate could contact the tire. This could lead to
a sudden loss of tire pressure or tire failure. Dealers will
install a retaining clip to the underside of the front Spring
strut plates. Owner notification is expected to begin during
may 2004. Owners should contact BMW at 1-800-831-1117.
