just over 3 days.....are we still on target for the 15th? I'd love to see actual pictures! :devillook I'm in, I just like pictures. :)

due to unforeseen factors, the manufacturer sent out the container a tad bit late. they told me that it was going to be stateside by the 15th... now, they're saying it'll take till end of the month. i apologize in behalf of euro dyne.

VIS is definitely much pricier...thats why i went ahead in ordering the hoods through carbon 8 to have better pricing for promising students just like you =) unfortunately, carbon 8 doesn't have the same vented style as VIS...

PRICE UPDATE ON CH HOOD SPECIAL!

The pricing is as follows!

OE Style 2DR

Vented Style I 2DR
$580 Shipped

OE Style 4DR
$535 Shipped

Nope, you won't need hood pins for this hood. But if you do intend to track ur e36 constantly, i suggest putting on the pins...

fuck. idk. my car is a 95. the nosepanel they sent me has 2 holes that don't line up. the kidneys are too small for the nose panel. i think they facelift has the biger, more rectangular kidneys. pull out one of each and see which one is bigger and more rectangular. thats the one i need. i think u sent me the right ones for 95...but ur computer is saying u sent me the right ones that i think i need. wtf. im half drunk right now too. ummm...hmmm...yeah, look at both sizes if you can, send me rectangular. idk whatelse to say. maybe i got the right nose panel that has 2 bolts that don't line up and the wrong kidneys.
jo...after comparing pics...u did send me the new ones, i need the old ones :)

fuck. idk. my car is a 95. the nosepanel they sent me has 2 holes that don't line up. the kidneys are too small for the nose panel. i think they facelift has the biger, more rectangular kidneys. pull out one of each and see which one is bigger and more rectangular. thats the one i need. i think u sent me the right ones for 95...but ur computer is saying u sent me the right ones that i think i need. wtf. im half drunk right now too. ummm...hmmm...yeah, look at both sizes if you can, send me rectangular. idk whatelse to say. maybe i got the right nose panel that has 2 bolts that don't line up and the wrong kidneys.
jo...after comparing pics...u did send me the new ones, i need the old ones :)

there u go again kiel =P! stop drunk typing will ya? don't worry i'll send u whatever i havent sent to u...=)

they cracked my windshield. said i did it. during the install...the reason that it had cracked all the way once it was there was the "heat got to it." i installed it last week...and is been hot every day since then. so when i get it back im going to raise hell...not going to do that until i get it back, for the simple fact that they have my car and i need it to work properly. know what i mean? never going back to that shop....the d-bags!

i posted 2 installed pics :)...just w/ no clear coat and no front end lol. the shop is supposed to be installing a hood release assembly (from the cabin to the hood latches) and *ahem* im supposed to pick it up today. nose panel should take abt 20 mins to install, bumper should take abt 20 minutes, and lights close to an hr or so...then i'll get you your pictures. if they don't get done today though, i won't be able to do anything to it until wednesday.

Hi,

Got my hood the other day. Is there any UV protection used in the Gel coat?

Also I'm having difficulty finding someone in my area (San Jose, Calif.) willing to clear coat the hood. Does Carbon 8 have a recommendation on how to prep the hood for (Clear coat) painting? Anything special about the release agent used?

Thanks!

if you mean where does the water go when it rains and it drains through the vents, its on the side of the tower...not on the strut itself. heres a side pic prior to the clear coat and front end re-install, also posted on the previous page:

yes, im extremely satisfied and happy with the fit and finish. my windshield washer nozzles fit in this one better then my oem replacement that the previous owner had installed. it lines up straight (if you search for threads started by me, look for one that says "a few random questions" or something...one of my very first posts had my cars discrepencies on it...the hood did NOT line up straight) and even all the way across. the stock latch assemblies bolted straight up and lined up perfectly, considering my actual catches are shot. i use my hood shocks OFF of the hood, i manually attach them when i open the hood, but the hardware is there and lined up perfectly. as far as this thing being aftermarket, it is great. if i had the money and another e36, i would be happy saving close to 1k by buying this over an mashaw.
does that answer your question :)

there is UV protection within the gel coat...but like i've posted previously throughout the thread. it is highly recommended to still have clear coating done. As for finding a reputable shop in the bay, there is one in burlingame i know of. i just have to find his business card. left it in the office. will let u know once i find it.

Just found this thread. Been looking for this "ACS style" of vented hood for a while for my CLS replica. Pics of the weave, etc look good. Got a question though...has anyone actually weighed the Carbon8 vented E36 hood? My main purpose for hood replacement with a CF hood would be for weight savings and I would be painting it body color (not a fan of the exposed carbon look honestly) so where does this hood sit in the weight department?

Being realistically an FRP hood with a carbon outer layer, obviously, it won't be as light as a true carbon hood...but i'm not willing to spend the insane amount of $$$ needed for a true carbon hood either, so...

How about it? Anyone weighed one yet? Or would any of you guys that have bought them already and not installed it yet be willing o put it on a scale? I'm sure you guys are EuroDyne could benefit from having this info as well as i'm sure that there are others looking for the same as me...

Hi all,

Just thought I would post a few comments on the e36 Vented hood from eurodyne. First eurodyne is a great company to deal with. They ship product when they say they will and the hood comes well protected in a heavy card board shipping box. It is wrapped extensively in bubble wrap and that soft foam stuff used for shipping. It arrived in one piece and looked great. The weave is immpressive and the gel coat looks very good. The quality of the attached hardware mounting points appear to be good, but more on that latter.

Installing the hood is best done with two people. It is quite a bit lighter than a stock hood, but can be unweidly to handle. Especially when you take the stock hood off the car. As a previous member posted that his windshield cracked, mine did too. It's because the hood hinge on the drivers side will pinch the windshield and crack it easily because the plastic cowling is long heat cracked and missing. Be careful when the hood hinge is near vertical when you mount this or any hood. You should also note that the hood mounting points for the hood latches in front will have to be modifiied to allow the back of the plunger bolts to "move around" more for alignment. Look at your stock hood latch locations to get an idea of how much you will have to open these up to allow it to align the hood latches. I used a dremel to get through the plastic/aluminum substrate. You will find that the hood release wont allow the hood to fully release (pop up) if you dont do this. Hood shock mounting points are there but if you mount the hood shocks, they will bottom out way before the hood is fully closed. Taking a measurement from a stock hood showed that the ones on the vented hood seemed to be mounted about 1" shorter than the stock hood. I left the hood shocks mounted to the car and will use them as a hood prop.

The holes supplied for the washer sprayers also seemed to be larger than what is required to fit the whasher sprayers on the hood. However this is way better than having to cut into the hood. I used some black electrical tape to "shim" it up so that they would fit snuggly.

There is a "bulge" on both fender lines where the hood is higher than the top of the fenders. It seems that the hood is sort of "pinched". I can live with it, it's not a show car. But if I wanted a perfect fit it would either take $$$ at a professional body shop to realign my front end sheet metal, or potentially a different hood. This is not a bolt on and forget it propisition. It took the better part of 1 1/2 days to install and get it (somewhat) aligned. An experienced person would probably be able to do it in less than 4 and get most of the alignment issues handled.

My over all rating is 8.6/10.

Eurodyne = 10.0
Hood Looks = 10.0
Hood fitment = 6.0 This is normal for most aftermarket parts...

Would I buy another one? If I was installing the hood on a track/autox car well yes, probably. The price is great as far as cf hoods are concerned. The service from Eurodyne is awesome.

Hope this helps someone...

it took that long to get it installed? also, mine pops up w/ no issues...and i didn't cut the holes that you are referring to. i did think abt doing that though. also, my windshield was cracked by the bodyshop when they removed the hood. i suppose i got lucky on my aligning, i got it really close w/in prolly 15-20 mins (like, i could have left it there and never messed w/ it close) but didn't worry abt it b/c the bodyshop was going to remove it. did you consider trying sedan hood shocks? i have a pair of them...one is shot and one is idk that i haven't put on yet, i did what you did. left the stock shocks mounted to the body and attach when i open the hood. nice write up btw.

jo, i'd say close to 9...8.5ish...maybe 9. out of 10. at first, i thought that the "bulge" i had was (hehe, no jokes) due to bad latches. but it doesn't seem to be that. thats really the only thing abt the hood other then the fact that its carbon fiber and i shouldn't use my shocks. Jon, did you actually attempt to close your hood using your stock hood shocks? did it bed or did you feel leary at all? i'll admit it, i don't have the balls to go out and break my hood on purpose...what is supposedly going to happen to a carbon fiber hood w/ stock hood shocks. can you offer anything jon?

Hi,

I tried with the hood shocks in place and lowered the hood very carefully untill I found resitance. The hood was still high enough to notice that the hood shocks were bottomed out and would not depress any further. I then measured the distance from the hood hinges to the hood shock mounting point (on the hood) on the car with the cf hood and one of my other 1995 ///M3's and found about a 1" descrepency. At that point I contemplated a bit about removing the hood shock mounting point from the hood and moving and re-riviting it back on, again about 1" towards the hood latches or front of the car. I theroized that this might help the "bulge" situation because once the hood gets past a certain point the hood shocks should go horizontal and possibly pull the hood flatter. I noticed that the plastic ribbing under the hood is detached and that there is some "rubbery" stuff underneth this plastic ribbing substructure that I took as some attempt to reduce noise. I also noticed that with out much pressure, if I placed my hand slightly in front of where the shock towers are that I could significantly lessen the "bulge" and this is with the hood fully closed.

The reason I did not attempt this is because I have no idea how much aluminum is behind the plastic were the hood shock mounts are currently.

Jo, is there any point to asking the factory if the hood shock points are correctly mounted? Probably not.

Hope it helps...

Jon

I even google'd it but no one makes any exterior carbon fiber pieces...:(

i have a feeling i know why that is true...

1. the 7 series is known to be the ultimate luxurious car. why put CF on it is what a manufacturer would ask.

2. the majority of 7 series owners don't mod their cars in that manner and manufacturers don't see the cost effectiveness of creating molds for a lesser demand.

despite all this, i still try to search here and there...but the best i can come up with is getting things customized. i haven't met anyone willing to mass produce these things for the e38. i would suggest giving eurostop usa at northridge, ca a call. they're known to create the best one off customization for older BMWs...

It was great talking to you on the phone today.
I really appreciate the offer too.

I think I am going to go with a non vented though, I got a great
deal on one that has a few scratches on it. Since I will be getting
the front of my car resprayed anyways, it makes sense.

either way PM me as soon as you have more radiators in stock.

Daymmmnnn.... Sorry I missed you today. Your boy took care of me really quicly though. The new hood is perfect ;) I am having some alignment issues BUT NOT BECAUSE OF THE HOOD. Since the car was hit on the passenger side it is giving me issues :( but the shop next door has it on the frame jig to straighten the fender support out as I type this, Hopefully it will be done tonight so I can drive her home.

Oh Representin Euro-Dyne too ...............AND ITS BIGGER THAN CASEY'S too and thats all that counts ;)
http://i111.photobucket.com/albums/n148/rc_m3/eurodyne1.jpg

and the hood as it sat just before they took it next door, It was close but the hit gave me a 1/4 inch gap on the passenger side I hope they can sort it out.
This hood is soooooooo F*cking sick dude, thank you so much Jo

Question: Does the carbon fiber show through a paint job? I'd love to have one of these but am not looking for the boy racer look. Thus, I would just have a shop paint the hood hellrot to match my car.

Anyone have experience with this?

jsp98m3

It covers fine. Wet sand it a touch. Primer, spray and clearcoat. You'll be in business.

Oh, lol. No, sorry if I wasn't clear. I mean if I have it professionally painted at a shop, will one be able to see the weave through the paint?

I'm looking for something that will appear stock.

jsp98m3
09-27-2008, 02:28 PM
That's what I meant. They will need to rough up the gel coat to make the primer stick. The primer coat will hide the CF. Then paint to color and clear coat it.

The only caveat here is that some CF hoods that are made by cheap-asses will not paint well. The reason has nothing to do with the CF and everything to do with the gel coat being too thin.

CF is not flat. It is textured. If a company goes cheap on the gel coat, then the too-thin gel coat will also be 3 dimensional and have all the weave variations transmitted from the bottom of the gel coat to the top surface. This is almost always totally unnoticeable on a CF hood that's left plain. On a painted hood it will appear that the pattern has printed through when actually, the surface is just transmitting through.

This is where good fill primers and a good painter are critical. They can make up for a lot of manufacturing sins.

I can attest to the quality of these hoods. The gel coat is extremely thick. You cannot feel the weave at all by touch and from any angle you cannot see weave in the gelcoat. Mine is smooth as silk. Obviously you can see it underneath but carbon 8 does a good job with the gel coat. I am extremely satisfied with mine.

no need for a GB to jump on this low priced deal already...going any lower will pretty much be asking me to sell these hoods below my cost. i know times are tough, but you can't expect me to run a business where i'm selling stuff at a loss...

How much shipped to PA for the e36 2 door in regular carbon fiber? No vents. I'm thinking maybe I can wait until the CSL trunks are made then get them both together.

So, my hood has been sitting in my garage since May 2008. :confused I'm waiting for the snow to melt and the salt to be off the roads before I put it on.

After reading a couple reviews on this hood, it looks like the hood doesn't just bolt straight in (as expected with aftermarket). What exactly do I need to do, to install it? Do I need to acquire some blown 4-door hood shocks so the hood doesn't bulge by the fenders? Will the hood stay open on its own with blown hood shocks? Are there any custom hood shocks I can order? What else do I need to do?

Thanks :)

You dont have to drill anything at all. fitment is great.

break the tabs off of the bottom of you roundel and use clear silicon to mount the roundel.

Case closed.

i thought i had heard that theres a chem in it that does somthing to the paint,

but i could be wrong, im sure theres some way of doing it so that it would be fine,

but if you going to paint cf why not just get a fiberglass its still ltw and its cheaper,

cant wait to see it done tho, should look ill

Just found this thread and since a tree branch fell on my hood thought I would ask if there are any OEM-style hoods left?

If so, what would the total with shipping be to 47403?

Look like nice pieces. Thanks.

You dont have to drill anything at all. fitment is great.

I had to dremel out my hood latches to get the bolts to line up/mate with the hood. Plus the hood sits more to the passenger side than the driver side. Oh well, still looks good. I cut some 1x2 wood and drilled some holes in it for hood props. I need to source some new struts to put on. The hood strut mounts are much further back than OEM, so the old struts wouldn't even fit if I tried (too long).

I hit 100+ on the track this weekend. Hood stayed on. There seems to be 3 clicks when shutting the hood.
1. hood latch caught.
2. Hood half ass shut, lifts a lot on the highway at 60.
3. Completely shut. Passenger corner lifts a little, but hey, it's light! What do you expect?

*Just glued my Roundel on last night. Looks good. Liquid Nails after you dremel off the stems.
