Hey guys need to diagnose this problem..
I have a BMW 318is motorsport 1 and ever since i had bought this car the oil light has never come on,even when the engine is not running and the ignition is on.
1. Checked the globe in the cluster and its all fine but replaced it anyway while i was in there.
2.Tried unplugging the sensor on the oil filter housing and grounding it but still nothing.
Oh and im from South Africa..
Thanks in advance for the help..

Check for power at the switch plug

Hey Nikky
I am from South Africa as well !! Good to have another member from SA.
OK, if you did check the cluster, and you grounded the Sensor, I think you need to replace the sensor, you don't wanna drive without it ;-)

I was just getting a price on something else, and asked them for a price on the oil pressure switch which I think you need and it is like R 119 excl VAT ... Nie te bad nie ;-)

Yes should be 12vdc. at the oil pressure sensor wiring harness plug
the piston powered aircraft i work on have average values for all the probes installed. values are given at normal room temp, operating temps also, so we can remove the probe, heat it and observe what the probe is doing. anything like that available for this???

Update..
No voltage on the wire?
Can i just put aux 12v on the wire?

Did some research on this..
The cluster must supply the "incoming" side of the globe or pressre indicator on the dash with 12VDC. The secondary side wire runs straight to the pressure switch which is a N/C contact which is earthed. When the switch has pressure the contact moves to a open position and the contact is broken hence the circuit is broken turning the light off.
Q Does any of this "engine oil pressure" infomation run through the ECU?
