I've had my E36 for a year now but never really paid attention to the onboard computer system thats on the dash console. My question is what does the CONSUM button display? I'm assuming its fuel MPG but correct me if its wrong. When I press on it it displays 10 km or something like that. Which is pretty bad if you convert it to miles which is 6 miles per gallon.
One last thing, I've always noticed that while I'm driving once a while I hear this chime. Any idea what it does? I don't have the owners manual so unfortuneatly I'm in the dark on this one.
Hit CONSUM then hit mi/km or whatever that button is. That'll change it from L/Km to MPG.
As for the chime, it's the memo function. Hit the MEMO button to turn it off. Or if the temperature hits 38 degrees or so it'll chime.

its not 10 km ... its 10 Liters (of fuel) per 100 kilometers ... thats how the rest of the world calculates gas mileage. Push the conversion button to put your obc back into the USA measurements

the infamous chime....press the "memo" button and it will stop :P atleast this fixed mine, however if it flashes the temp and chimes at a certain degree i dont know what it could be.......
it could be letting you know drastic temp changes, who knows.....
i had this going for a bit and thought i had lost my mind. :shifty

Chimes at 37 DegF, basically an indication that 'bridge freezes before road surface".

lol over this thread, I love it! Last summer I had the same question about that damn chime when I first bought the car. Finally after messing around I fixed it by accident.
Once again, this forum provides great advise and answers to pestering questions. Good stuff

5 is your main climate control computer (located behind the control unit with the buttons)
6 is your chime speaker.

5 I would guess to be the independent ventilation relay
6 is a normal car horn that you would find under the hood, have always wondered why its on that page....9 is the gong/chime

ok so if it only chimes once it means it is 3 degrees celius/38 fahranheit outside(i live in canada) but sometimes mine chimes twice and also sometimes it will chime 3 times, lol. Don't have any idea what these ones mean. 3 seconds till self destruct or something. will start pushing the memo button and see if that helps

The independent vent relay is so you can set a timer on the obc to turn on the a/c blower say half an hour before you leave work on a hot sunny day etc. I would love to know where it lives myself so I can fit one to complete my obc install!!
