New here and hello...

I'm currently in the market for a 328i.
Looking thru the various posts, I'm a bit confused.
Question...Is there a 'family tree' showing what E30, E46 etc.stands for???

My 3 Series brochure does not mention E designations.
Anyone care to give a newcomer an education?
