And I potentially could have as job for the next 8months starting in may (when my semester ends) I was thinking about a cam kit for the M3

I also have plans to go FI at some point in my life on the M, but want something that isn't a huge hit to the bank account until I get a more permanent job. That being said, the cams will have to work with the c38 kit which I am looking to buy.

From what I've found, the schrick cams will work with this kit, so I found a few places that sold them and will most likely buy from bimmerworld as they are right up the street from me at VT and they havn't steered me wrong yet.

The only thing that I am concerned is the other parts I would need aside from just the two cam shafts. I saw they had a sunbelt kit that was about $3k with all sorts of goodies and figured most of the would be necessary for the c38 as well.(m50 manifold, intake system, 24# injectors)

After installing the schricks, I'm sure I would need a tune to get the most out of the cams and I was thinking AA tune so maybe I could send my ecu back for a reflash when I ordered the c38 from them.

Does anyone have any thoughts or suggestions as to what all pieces I should be looking for, or should I try and source out a kit that would have everything I need?

TIA

Hate to derail your plans here, but if you are a student, there's better ways to spend your money. Why not get involved with VTCC, or is it CCVT, the VT car club? I see them at VIR all the time, they work the track for free track time. Your E36 M3 is probably the most popular track car these days, you wouldn't believe how much fun you could have doing track events. The money you would have spent on cams and tuning would have gotten you a couple years of track events, to where you could be considering being an instructor. Driving skill > $$$ sunk into car.

Cams and FI are cool and fun, but can make a DD more of a hassle, less reliable, more issues. (Trust me, I know, back when I went to VT I had a built supercharged mustang, lots of big/little issues). And besides, power gets boring (I had about 450hp), but handling/suspension does not.

Anyway, you can ignore me if you want, no worries. But I promise, if you follow my suggestion, you will end up much happier!

I am a member of CCVT but I dont really like the guys that much, they seem a little cliqueish to me...I've contemplated taking my car out to VIR but for some reason I feel worried about putting it into a wall or breaking something (although that could happen every day I go out driving...) but I'm thinking of setting the e28 and taking that out and not really worrying about it all that much.

I autocrossed the M3 one time and had a blast and that is something I'd like to get into, but for some reason I'd like to get a little more power out of it, I've already got shocks, springs, and sway bars and the car handles like a dream, just time to get some new sticky tires.

But anyway, thanks for for the advice, I'll also add that into my decision making process!
