View Full Version : Secondary Airpump Bypass "Simulators"

My secondary airpump crapped out on me a while ago (this is an OBDII only thing). I have absolutely no interest in paying over $350 for the new parts to replace this air pump but I need to pass inspection now (expired last month). Active Autowerks sells 'simulators' for $200 which fool the computer into thinking everything is fine.

Does anyone know anything about these simulators? Is this something I can do on my own with a resistor or two to avoid paying $200 for this kit?

Thanks in advance

Don't know about any simulators. But, are you sure it's the pump itself? Most of the time it's the vacuum hose that wraps around the front of the engine. It gets brittle and cracks. Also, the choke valve often corrodes or the vacuum switch fails. These are much less expensive fixes.

well, if it is the pump, i'll sell you mine for $100 shipped

It's the pump and the valve. The pump's bearings got louder and louder until one day it just shut off and never came back on. then within 10 min, CEL.

As for the guy with the used pump, send me a PM with details. Do you also have the valve?

I'm sure you could toss a resistor in there to fool the computer probably just like the ASC throttle body. do you need a block off plate then?

Don't think a resistor will be enough. When I had a bad vacuum switch that kept the valve closed, the pump was running and still gave me a CEL.

Simulating the valve or the pump is easy, but the DME determines whether the Secondary Air system is operating correctly by looking at data from the pre-cat O2 sensors. Simulating that is difficult.

So it sounds like the AA simulator is worth it. Thanks guys.

So say i want to completely remove my air system.. basically the only downside doing that would be i would have the MIL on??

Lets say we remove the air system, and put straight pipes on, so theres no cats to worry about.. and all the simulators in.. Then were worry free right?
Oh and different headers, or just weld the ports shut.

Hey V8eater, lets see some more pics of that gauge cluster you have... looks awesome.
