View Full Version : Steering wheel with chrome trim?

I ordered a 328xi, (no sport package) which gives me the chrome trim around the exterior windows, but I don't get the cool "V" shaped chrome trim on the steering wheel. Has anyone ever customized their steering wheel to get this? My steering wheel is all black, but I really liked the chrome when test driving the 328s with sport package. Just wondering if it's even possible and if anyone has done this.

That would probably be a costly retrofit, would have been cheaper to get the sports package. Why didn't you get it anyway?

First of all, are you ever NOT on the forum? LOL :) Good to have you around man. Anyway, my Wife was with me when I made the order, and my biggest question was if I wanted bigger rims/tires. Well to do that with the order I had to get the sport package, and my Wife didn't like the seats or the paddle shifters that came with that package. We discussed it over and over, and she won. Ugh!

Just went through this at the dealer. Even though the chrome window trim is on the car you "build" on bmwusa.com, the 328 i/xi sedan does NOT come with the chrome trim around the windows.
If you got a coupe, thats a different story. :)
I priced the trim as an add on after delivery. Turns out its $1,000 JUST FOR PARTS!!! WTF??? Not worth it IMO. The black trim is actually growing on me. I think I like it :)
Regarding steering wheel: I agree that the chrome addition would be pretty costly, unless there is some DIY that I am unaware of. Good luck!

The steering wheels are quite different so I doubt a chrome DIY is possible, and replacing a steering wheel means an airbag which means lots of $$.

Ugh indeed! Is this your car or hers? If yours, I would have stuck to your guns. The SP seats are worth the package price alone IMO. Too late to change the order??
Sorry to hear that, but you're most likely stuck with the non-chrome trimmed steering wheel. Like mryakan said, it's not just trim, the sport package steering wheel is totally different. Smaller, thicker, etc. So even if you got the chrome trim pieces from a SP steering wheel, they most likely will not fit.

I see... just wondering. I'll probably love the car when it arrives and won't want to change a thing ;)
