Would installing a performance exhaust void my warranty ?

Ouch I never thought about that, and I've already made an appointment with the muffler shop.

no, the Magnuson-Moss act protects you.

the only thing that might be questionable/red flag for warranty is removal of the cats by way of *catless downpipes* that I see companies like Riss Racing, Ultimate Racing, etc selling.

It won't directly void your warranty. But if something were to go wrong, say wastegate issues or something similar, BMW could give you a hard time with an aftermarket exhaust and blame the failure on it. It is always recommended to remove mods before going in to the Dealer for something like a limp mode or CEL.

BMW installed a Borla cat-back for me. They said as long as you leave the cats alone there is not going to be an issue.

Can you post a picture? How do they sound? What did BMW charge you?

Thanks.

That's good to know. I also wonder about intake too, because I just put one in mine, and I don't want to put the stock back in every time they need to pop the hood.

They did mine as well, $250 to install. The catback was purchased through Summit Racing

thanks for the info, i wont be touching the cats so it should be ok then.

yeah i also just installed an aFe intake, but i doubt that would void the warranty.

If the mod increases HP they could deny a drivetrain warranty claim. They design the drivetrain for a specific HP. If you increase the HP and something breaks it becomes a goodwill issue with the dealer. Its not likely they will make to much noise about a cat back. However chip the car and have a cat back and have your transmission fail they will likely not cover it.

It will if it causes the problem. I've heard of turbo repairs, etc, denied due to exhaust modifications.
