View Full Version : 328i Engine Stall

I have a 2007 E92 model (purchased in early July of 2007)

While I was driving my car today, the engine stalled and died; luckily I was only driving in a parking lot and not on the road when this happened. All of the electrical components in the car shut off and a "Service Required" notification appeared on the instrument panel.

After I pulled over to the side, I put the car in park, waited a minute, and retried the engine. The engine restarted without incident and did not give any signs of noticeable struggling.

I've made an appointment to see my dealer this Friday, but I'm trying to figure out what could have caused the problem. I know that the early models of the 335i had fuel pump/overheating problems and am wondering if my 328i is suffering from the same sort of issues. One of my friends also told me that the issue could have been computer related (?). I am also contemplating whether this issue could've been a consequence of an earlier incident to which my car was subject to - running over a speed bump @ 40mph (see my earlier posts for more information).

Any insight/knowledge/advice would be greatly appreciated.

EDIT: My current mileage = 6212

ouch 40 mph lol. i dont think fuel pump/overheating problems is your problem, your problem must be electrical. check your battery connections (battery located in the trunk), you might have knocked them lose ?

Could be a gas anomaly.

Even if the battery disconnects while the car is running dont you get power from the alternator?

Yes, but when the circuit is broken it won't run. you have to have the battery hooked up to complete the circuit. be it a good or bad battery. If it is loose it won't run.

Are you certain of this? In every other car I have owned, you can disconnect the battery if the engine is running and the car will continue to run. The battery is only part of the circuit if the alternator dies or excess demand is requried. I have read that, in computer equipped cars (like all of them today), disconnecting the battery may not be good for the electronics but the car should still run.

I know for a fact that I can pull the battery from my Lexus, my Acura, and my recently sold Mustang.

Wow, this is the first I have heard of a 328 stall. Good luck man. I have not stalled, but my car does seem to occasionally shudder while ildling. Not really noticable enough to be bothersome IMO

I know this is an old post, but i recently had the exact same problem on my 07 328i. What was the resolution from yours?

Thanks

Bump!
Any insight or resolution? Mine had started to stall as well at stop lights and such. I do have an engine code P0015 exhaust cam shaft over- retarded bank 2. The car seems fine otherwise.
