Got a 95 E36 m3 with stock DS1's currently running 235/40/17 hankook HR2's.

now i like the hankooks great grip, nice in the rain, BUT holy crap they wore out fast. I mean I knew they would go quick with the 200 tread wear but DAMN.

SO that being said what can I get that is around the same performance that will last longer?...I was thinking maybe Potenza RE750's

FYI, car is a daily driver that is tracked on occasion sporting Koni adjustable struts, eibach springs and sways, and balance and alignment are kept right on.

I'm with stupid, these are a hair away from the wear bar and I put them on at the beginning of January...

There are alot of tires out there that will last longer than that.

Get Pilot Sport PS2 for $200-ish or Yoko S-drive for $125-ish.

but what has similar performance and cost? I really dont want to spend more then $600 on tires unless they will last more then 20k miles.

these HR2's only lasted 10k if that.

In that case, there cant be more than a handful of tires in your price range and size.

Why not list the tires you are looking at people with experience or opinions can chime in?

I pretty much did, the potenza's were what I was looking at when I got the HR2's, I was thinking of kumho or falkens but they werent that great on my last car.

I do like the Pzero nero's but cant seem to find them.

Im pretty open for suggestions.

My Pilot Sports staggered lasted 39K on the rears and the fronts had more then 5K left but replaced them.
I have some DS1's non staggered that have Pilot Sports and will be pulling my contours with Esta 712's, really noisey tires with 15K miles on them, and going to the DS1's.
Even when worn out the Pilots were quiet and handled well. I hear others talk up some Goodyears but I am stuck on the Michelins...

how hard do you drive? I drive "spirited" most of the time, and hard on occasion. If I can get 35k out of them then that might be worth spending the money on the pilots.

You aren't going to get 35k out of any Z rated tire on a properly aligned M3.

The PS2 is the best street tire out there, IMHO. If you can afford them get them. I prefer to buy cheap tires, drive them hard and replace them often.

well then what are your thoughts on the kumho ecsta ASX's, or the Sumitomo HTR+?

I had the sumitomo HTR+'s on my last car and while they didnt last very long, it was longer then these hankooks lasted and they are basicly half the price....hmmm

I have an unfounded aversion to the ASX's.

I'm trying a set of Sumitomo HTRzII. They don't have any tread squirm which is common on fresh tall rubber. Too early say, I only have about 1k on them.

I mentioned the Yoko S-drive which replaced the ES100 this year. I feel they are a good compromise tire. I wasn't disappointed with my ES100's. I drove the S-drive's at a Yoko tire test AX and they performed well.

well im definatly not getting the HTRzII's no more tires with 200 tread wear ratings, which is why I was looking at the HTR+.

i kinda stay away from all kumho's as well but they keep getting good reviews, and have a tread life warrenty(and yes I know how those work).....but.....

whats the word on the fuzion ZRi's?

I had the hankooks and got close to a year out of them.. with a few autox on them...

is something up with your alignment?

I am now running the rt615's, but I honestly think i prefer the kooks for the street.

EnderG60

alignment is right on the money I just drive alot. Ive put almost 15k on the car in the 10 months ive had it.

Dont get me wrong I like the kooks, they were awsome while they lasted...they just didnt last, and if im gonna have something that goes that fast it may as well be a slick.

Those are Z rated tires... what did you expect?

Is this the first tire change for you and the car? The longest I have had Z rated tires last me was about 15K... he.ll even on the highway with normal driving they are wearing away, LOL

The RE750s are discontinued, you might be able to pick some up at closeout pricing. If you can find a set of RE760 Sports, I'd give those a shot while they are still at intro pricing. The ZRis are a great tire for the dollar, but you won't find any good summer tire that will last 20k+ miles. If you didn't like the wear on your current tires, then the Kumhos are not going to be for you.

Id be happy with 15k, these lasted about 7-8k though. And no, I got these tires new and put them on about 7 months ago.

Im leaning toward the HTR+'s, they were nice on my last car and they are half the price of most of the other tires I was considering so if they wear out fast its not as bad a hit.

I just want to get a year or more out of tires, and have them sticky enough that the ass doesnt come out unless I want it to. Thats not too much to ask....

I'm looking to replace my RE750's, which were pretty darn good, although my mechanics really don;t seem to like them--seem to feel they are poor quality--but they seem, to me to be one of the best tires besides the PSII's and last longer from the reviews. I drove a benz on the autobahn with the PS's and on back road twisties... Wish my wife wouldn't notice my spending $800.00--they were wonderful!!!!--I think I'd go deaf from her yelling at me if i did tho. Actually, that might not be so bad...

I'm going to try a set of Kumho ASX's or something in that ilk, around $100ea, versus the re750's at $140--WHICH you can buy right now at tirerack for $140ea on closeout.

The RE750's lasted 2 summers of very spirited driving. I never race on the street, but knew it was time to replace these puppies when chasing a buddy of mine in his 911 4s---and almost got sideways on a highway onramp:D

I am new to the BMW thing.

Does anyone have experience with the Falkens ZIEX? I bought my first M3 about a month ago and they had brand new Falkens on it. It is not a daily driver and I will only put about 8k miles a year on the car, and have no plans to track it. So far the Falkens seem to be fine.

Thanks

I've got staggered 17" Kumho SPTs on my '01 330. Very pleased with them.
Similar handling to the Contis that were OEM, but a lot cheaper.

im gonna give the sumitomo HTR+'s a try on here. i was going to wait till next month and finish this set off at the track, but there isnt a chance they will last that long :(

Tire rack has the 235/40/17's for $78 and $34 shipping. Anyone know any other place that has them cheaper before I order?
