Does anyone know if this is going to become a widely marketed reality anytime soon? I saw an article in the newspaper a long time ago about this and I was wondering what happened to it.
All i've found is this:
(okay, i guess cuz i'm new i can't post links...but if you google "urethane tires", it's the first article)
This site describes urethane as only a rubber replacement, which I don't think will work too well. Like the article mentions, I would think there would be serious traction issues. I skate and skateboard wheels use urethane...even the softest urethane wheels used for cruising are prone to slip when pushed hard and it frequently leads to chunking off.
However, the picture I saw in the newspaper article was different. It showed a picture of a car wheel and instead of solid material surrounding the wheel, it looked like there was another set of spokes which emanated to a bigger circular piece covered with rubber. So...imagine the wheel inside a wheel? I would think it looks something akin to the structure inside the run flat tires. I would think this would work very well if developed correctly, but haven't heard anything about it.
Anyone?
