Hi,
I'm looking into getting a duster for the car such as the original California one, this one (http://www.autopia-carcare.com/decardu.html) or something similar. I assume this should only be used on cars with very light dust such as parking outdoors overnight without much moisture? Anything else I should be aware of?
Thanks.

I don't know about that the duster thingy, because my friend bought one for his car and he says it leaves scratch marks and his car was red. So if you got a black car probably better not to get the duster. Take the extra time and just wash the car completely. That's what I would do.

The California Car Duster is a great tool and if used properly it won't hurt the surface at all.
Several key points:
-- Make sure to let it sit for 24 hours on newspaper with the mop spread out so that the excess paraffin can bleed out. You do this before you use it for the first time, and that's the only time you should need to do it.
-- DO NOT PUT ANY PRESSURE ON THE DUSTER. This can and will cause swirls and scratches, and should be avoided at all costs. If you have spots of caked on dirt or bird droppings, just continue over the rest of the car with the California Duster and come back and take care of the spots with a soft cotton towel or microfiber and some Quick Detailer.
-- The dirtier the duster gets, the better it works. Shake the duster vigorously before and after each use, then keep it in the storage bag/sleeve it comes with.
Hope this helps.

I agree completely. Its a vital part of the cars appearance care. I find it particularly useful to use each time before I take it out, after its rested a day or more. There will be a light coating of dust and/or pollen that has accumulated on the surface. It may not be enough to make the car look dirty, but, just let a few drops of rain spritz on the surface, and youll get dirt spots for sure. By dusting the car off with the duster, you can avoid this kind of 'problem', and wont have to wash it quite as frequently. Its really a great tool for touchups in between washes, to prolong periods between washes.

Absolutely!!!! Thank god for my CCD. I have a cosmos black M3, and I'm as anal as they come about it's finish...and the CCD has NOT scratched my car....ever. Like ben and paul say though, be careful when and how you use it. Light dust or pollen removal ONLY. No moisture, or DIRT buildup! In the summer, I regulary use my CCD followed by some good QD, and I extend washes for a week or two, easily...provided i dont get caught in rain!
