18x8.5 & 18x9.5 97 540i tire sizes?

Ok I need to know what tire sizes i can run on my 540 with my new 18's .
Im most worried about how wide i can go in the rear on the 9.5's with no rub and consider i want to do a small drop with a set of H&R springs later.
Also should i run 35 or 40 sidewalls?..

I'd like my tires to fit the rims nicely IE protrude from the lip of the rim just a bit.

PS: i believe the rear offset is 25mm

Fronts: 245/40/18
Rear: 275/35-18 or 265/35-18

No rubbing at all with 275 ont he rear?

With 275 wide tires, after he lowers the car, he may get occasional rubbing with the rears on the fender lips in certain driving and load situations. Brand and model of tire is another variable, as some brands are wider in same size, and also tire shoulder design makes a diff.

the tires wont be stretching the sidewalls inwards at all with a 245 on a 8.5 wide wheel? or 275 on a 9.5?

No, many run 245 on 8.5" and also 9" wheels. Most common staggered wheel/tire setup is 9" or 8.5" fronts with 245's and 10" rears with 275
