Roughly 6-800
Call Your Local Dealer As Prices Change. They Will Need The Car All Day. Doesn't Take Very Long To Install It, But They Will Need Most Of The Day To Reprogram It. You Pay For Parts And Installation, Re-programming Is Covered By Your Warr.
That's For The "interface" If You Want An "aux Port" You Are Looking Around 3-400 Depending On Dealer.
You Need To Call And See If Your Car Is Compatible With Either Option. Not All Cars Are.
Other Than That, You Have Endless Options With After Market Fm Transmitters.

His '06 330i should already have the AUX port in the center console.
Dealer installed iPod kit should only be $500-$550 installed. Any dealer that charges more is gouging.
Beware the Dealer installed iPod kit though, it is quirky and does not provide great functionality if you have a large iPod. It only loads a limited number of artists/albums and is VERY slow with a full iPod (I have a 60GB iPod full and to select "Artist" it takes up to 4 minutes before it shows the list). If you have a small iPod or mostly listen to playlists then it will work just fine.

I threw a ball park figure out without looking it up. And 100 - 150 dollar difference is not price gouging, it's call supply and demand for your area. ;)

You said $600-$800 so it would have been up to a $300 difference. As a percentage of the total, that would be more than a 50% higher cost and yes I would call that price gouging, I don't care what area you live in.
Regardless, as you said, you were guessing. The OP can use my figures as a more actual number and make a decision if the Dealer installed kit is worth it. I would vote no, and I speak as someone who has it.

If the OP just wants to use the iPod in the Aux port

$35 instead of $650 for the integrated system.

Yes, my car does have the AUX input; it hate it. It does not charge my ipod and I can control the songs from the steering wheel controls. Can I install this myself or is it too hard?

No, the dealer installed iPod option requires car programming so you cannot do the entire install by yourself. IIRC the part runs around $300 and then you pay around $200-$250 for the dealer to install and then re-program the car. You could do the physical install yourself and then pay the dealer to program the car, but I don't know how much effort is required for the physical install and what the dealer would charge just for the re-program. If you are dead set on getting the adapter installed, I would suck up the $200-$250 to have them install/program. Just my .02.

Hey I'm not sure if the pricing went down, but when I looked into getting iPod integration installed on my 330i, came to about $800. I looked into doing it myself and honestly just wasn't a feasible option. Parts alone go for close to $450. And then you do need the dealer to update the programing.
I now use this kensington piece, works quite well and charges the ipod. There is a small RF Remote that fits nicely on the steering wheel. Grant it there is no display, but my ipod nano (4th generation) sits in the middle consule and I don't haveta worry about it. Charges and plays with only 1 cable connected to the ipod. The rest is a car power adapter with a short stereo mini cable just long enough to plug into the aux in.
Any Apple store should carry it. Link is below. Hope this helps some.
ok cuz i'm brand new i can't put a link soo
if you go to http://us.kensington.com/html/14492.html you can see the product

Why not a cheapo iPod car charger + 5$ aux cable and create some playlists, leave them on shuffle and be done with it for cheap. I love my iPod integration, but if I didn't have it, that is what I would have done and in fact this is what I was doing in my e36 albeit it had no aux and was connected via a cassette adapter.

On the iPod nano (4th generation) both don't fit at the same time, I tried that first...thanks though
