View Full Version : lightweight flywheel on a stock car.
Of all you guys that have a stock car and went with a lightweight flywheel would you recommend it to others. I do sometimes drive clients around and the noise is my main concern.
Please: The only people I am asking to participate in this pole is people with actual experience with the above scenario. I don't need to know the benefits of a LW flywheel or need info for cars with other mods.
Thanks

Regardless of it is stock or not, you will notice an increase in acceleration. Are you planning on replacing the clutch too? If you are doing a drive train refresh, consider getting an ///M clutch kit, the LTW flywheel and doing the CDV delete all at once. The car will accelerate noticeably quicker and your shifts will be faster and more precise. Then down the road if you continue to modify the car, those will be things you don't have to worry about.

the only real negative i can think of is a lighter wallet, i say go for it

Price is not really a negative since you can get a lightweight flywheel for less then the stock DM flywheel.
The big negative is the noise potential for a daily driver which is sometimes used to drive clients around (yes I understand putting in the correct trans fluid to reduce the noise etc, etc). I understand all the benefits of a lightweight flywheel, I installed one on my Monaro but it is not a daily driver and noise is not a factor.
I am not going to further modify the car.

I have a 8.5lb fw and I used to have the gear rattle until I did the cocktail mixture. I have no noise what so ever.
"1 bottle Redline 75W-140NS and 1 bottle Redline D4 ATF) will eliminate it entirely in some cars, or at least reduce the remaining rattle a subjective 90%". - UUC
