Hey guys, I recently have been drawn to Style 5 wheels. I'd like to get a set and use them as my "Street" set and relegate my Kosei's to track use only. If I could afford RS I'd get them...being a college student :eyecrazy. I recently saw a set, I think, for sale on craigslist, here's some photos:

^^^Here the seller is measuring 9", so are they 9" wide or are they really considered 8". (From what I've read 9" are pretty rare)

So for one, are they Style 5's...they appear to be? Second, what size are they 17x..."? Finally what do these generally go for, obviously these look like they need refinishing.

For future referance, what kind of fender mods will I need to fit these? With 215s do I need any fender rolling, is it minor rolling, etc...? Do people run 215/45 or 215/40, as 215/45 will match the OE tire size better. Finally people running more than 215s, (225, 235, etc...) do you really need to "pull" the fenders?

Here is a pic of my car and it's current ride height for referance:

Why would you want to put those on when you have the best e36 wheel in existence already? But really, the style fives date the car in a bad way.

^^ Styles fives are quite popular as they replicate BBS wheels, but OP why dont you look up the rims on a BMW parts website or something?

Personal taste really, I too thought Kosei's looked awesome and they do (and are really light)... however, they are kinda cheap looking.

because I'm interested in used prices, not just new.

The wheels you posted pics of are genuine BBS RS's. Style 5's are 17x8 ET20 wheels (with a rarer version made in 18"). Sets go for anywhere between $500 to $1000 (usually with tires), or less if the seller doesn't know of the demand for them. People usually run 215/40's with these, but I don't see how a 215/45 would be a problem. A fender roll may be necessary depending on how low you are (I think most people do this).

EDIT: You may need hubcentric rings as well, because the majority of these wheels came off of E39's (which have a larger hub bore than E36's). There are some that have the standard hub bore off of the E34 though.

Yea.. the wheels posted are BBS RS... not style 5's (see sig.. 18's thought:D)

You will not need hub rings.. but you will need to run slightly stretched tires since the offset is too low. possibly even rolled fenders.

It looks like those are 8" wide.. the measurement is from the inside of the lips, not outside as picture

So if those are BBS RS, then they should be 17x8", et ...? Also the $$$ you quoted, is that for BBS RS or Style 5s. Thanks.

5's

So then, how much (range) do BBS RS go for? I've seen refinished go from $1,500 - $2,000

BBS RS212's (the ones you want that are 17" and in our 5x120 bolt pattern) are rarer than most models of RS's. I haven't seen a decent set for under $1800, with fully pimped out sets going for $3k. Since the RS's are modular, I'm not sure what exact sizes you'll find them in. They will be more of a hassle to fit than Style 5's though.

Cool, but looking at the pics in the first post... you consider those decent? I'm seeing $1-1.5k for a nice set and 2k+ for a REALLY baller set. Do you know of measuring wheel width, is the way he's measuring them (first post) are those considered 9 or 8 or 8.5"?

You really should read the posts you start. I posted yesterday that those were 17x8... someone else stated it right after I did.

those are pretty rare as 17's... i think they are worth $1500-2000 if there is no curb rash... looks like they are basically original.. with the clear making them look hazy. offer up $1000 and go from there.. they may or may not know what they actually have.

Oh sorry, didn't even see that. Thats good to know, it looks like I need to ask him what the wheels are specifically (markings near the hub). Also it looks like their missing the nuts & bolts. Thanks for your help.

I'm really pissed at myself for missing a set of mint fully polished RS212's. A guy near me was selling his E34 for $800 (head gasket gone bad) and it had those wheels on it. He had no idea what he had. Still mad I didn't jump on it.

Proceed with caution! I am pretty sure that is a set of metric sized RS's that has been passed around the internet a lot lately. They've been selling in the $500-1000 range but like I said they are METRIC (16.4") rims and there are just about no tires you can run on them!

Ahh.. very good point. I recall someone buying a set recently, then AFTER.. ran the part numbers. Yea he got the wheels for cheap, but tires were going to run him $350+ each since metric is limited.

Thanks for the advice, the wheels are local so we'll see. I need to get the info on the stampings from the hub and we'll see what they *might* be. What's the best way to make sure they're in fact 17" diameter...where should I measure (lip to lip)?

*edit* looking back on your posts, the guy that was trying to sell them here...I found his listing on craigslist for $400 and I thought this is to good to be true, but I didn't want to post anything about it LOL. Damn, I really thought I was gonna pick up a set for a STEAL. I knew something was wrong when he mentioned 17x9 and RS001 and that turns out to be a VW 15x7 wheel... that's why I was asking all these questions just to make sure. God I love this forum! Oh well, I guess I'll keep looking.

Glad I could help. I didn't want to be a dick and call them out like that but they looked awfully familiar. They were originally listed as 17x10" 5x1200 for $600 and I almost crapped my pants, but luckily someone on the Vortex realized what's up and saved us. Since then they've been put on all sorts of forums with all sorts of descriptions being sold by all sorts of usernames :)

Another scammer! 'hope he's not here in BimmerForum lurking for another prey. Lookout!!!:nono
