View Full Version : Defogger is Making me go Deaf!

I want to know something. When you hit the defogger button on the climate control, is the blower motor supposed to go full blast? Because mine does, and I find it ridiculous that I can't lower the speed of it. Any attempt to lower the speed via the +/- buttons just disables the defogger. So it's either full blast or nothing.
I mean it's nice to have a giant WOOSH of air that defogs your window in a split second, but I would like to be able to keep the defogger going at a non-deafening level for those long commutes in the rain where the window keeps fogging up.
If this is normal behavior, is there any mod or anything that allows you to control the speed of the defogger? And if this is not normal behavior, is there any fix for it?

Since you've got a '97, you've got the digital controls - the top left button (has an up arrow on it) directs the airflow to the defroster vents - and you can control the fan speed. You can also re-direct some of the air to the vent and/or floor if you wanna keep your toes warm too.
But yeah, the "defrost" setting is meant to clear it in half a second....
(and there's a problem with your diagram - it indicates that the conveyor belt is moving the 'screw plane' forward, the arrow's either pointing in the wrong direction or in the wrong place... ;-) )

Holy crap, you just made my day. Thanks! :D
And yes you're right about the diagram. That arrow is indicating the direction of the top part of the belt, not the bottom. :stickoutt
I'm removing this damn sig, you wouldn't believe how many comments I have received from it. It's pretty funny, but the whole plane on a conveyor thing belt is a dead horse now. It only took a Mythbusters episode to convince people. :rolleyes

Yeah there's a huge thread on it in OT, that got locked of course, but at least it convinced most people that the plane does in fact take off. It's actually a funny read, quite a few people got shut down. :)

Well back to your original question the defogger goes full blast, no other choice, i have the same situation. sounds like a vacuum. I just use my radio to drown it out lol. The stock HK system sounds really nice in my car, and especially good at drowning out dumb defoggers and that awesome steering wheel creak.

Off the subject, but does anyone know how to get that dreadful screeching sound to stop behind the heat/ac/defogger buttons? I stuck my finger back in there and felt that it was the fan. Any ideas on that one? Feel liking ripping that fan out before I tear my hair out. Thanks late nighters...
