Do brand new michelin tires need to be broken in a bit to run true? My new set of tires seem to run a bit rough right at around 60 km/h. There is a very slight shaking/vibration that can be felt throughout the car. I have already checked for bent rims and took it back to where I got them and the guy there said you may have to run them in a bit to set them in but your rims and tires are straight. Anyone have any experience like this before?

Honestly I've never heard that about Michelins. As a matter of fact one of the reasons I suggest Michelins over and above other tires is because of quite the opposite reason that your salesman told you...Michelins are typically MORE true of a tire than others and I very very infrequently...if not EVER see a Michelin come back due to a tire defect or something similar.

If you're feeling some moderate to high speed vibrations I would start with tire balance. And if that doesn't fix it...it's always a possibility that you have a bad tire...but unlikely with a Michelin.

I got the wheels balanced a second time for free and one suspect tire balanced a third time and the shaking seems to have deminished but is still slightly noticeable. Since Michelin makes thousands of tires, it is possible that there is a bad one every once in a while that gets through the QC department. I am a loyal Michelin man myself and for years have own them and this is a first for me that I have had this kind of problem. The tire guy said that these tires are really easy to balance and it is not likely that they screwed up on the balance so he offered to balance the suspect tire and found that it was .25 out and he said you shouldn't be able to feel that if it is on the rear right side of the car. I did notice a difference after that third balance, I guess BMW suspensions are really sensitive to vibrations. I did a control test and mounted an old Michelin tire on that rear right side and the shaking went away so I knew that it was that tire that was giving me trouble so if it wasn't a balance problem, it is the tire itself. If it continues to trouble me, I may take it in and get it replaced with another one even if I have to pay a little because of the pro rated warranty.
