Hey all ...im currently getting ready to have this set up installed on my 97 528i non-sport..my question is since the ride is gonna get tougher due to these struts compared to my soft crappy oem shocks ..is it gonna make my control arms, tie rods feel loose and sloppy ??..since its gonna be a harder hit going over bumps ?....last time when i had the control arms imspected at bimmerclinic ..they told me all seems tight ...but im afraid that after the suspension overhaul ...its not gonna feel solid anymore

i guess this is aimed to the guys that installed bilsteins in there car and i wanna know weather or not they changed the control arms, tie rods,,etc etc

and if they didnt ....if they had there arms loosen up from the bilsteins

thanks all !!

I actually had bil sports put on with my stock sport springs. So far no issues and didn't change a thing. The ride is not too bad at all. Very similar to stock sport feel.

The arms won't loosen up from the shocks. If they are worn, you'll notice it more because of the new shocks. The arms are a maintenance item so ... have them inspected and replace if necessary.

FWIW I have had Bilsteins on multiple vehicles and didn't like the ride ride with HDs and stock springs. The gas pressurized base setttings on the HDs are too harsh IMO for stock springs [this was on lighter E30s]. Matched correctly with stiffer springs ... I would think they are a good buy.

Personally, have swapped out to Koni adjustables on my BMWs and Rancho adjustables on my suburban. Race my vintage car on Koni adjustables as well. Replaced OEM sport suspension on my touring with same from BMW. Next time ... Koni FSDs and Vogtland springs [for the front].

Good luck.

awesome! ..im tryin to pm Bill but his mailbox is full ...how much was it for the install just labor ?..i got all the parts just waiting for the rear shock mounts then im ready to go !

i think the control arms might of been replaced by the po ..seems to look newer than the other parts on the car ..so maybe thats why it feels good still.. im running on 101k now .and have no shimmy ...maybe alittle during braking but mike told me that its a tire balance issue

anything you recomend me getting with my install ?

i dunno if this means anything ..i currently have the 15in rims still on the car
rims will come whenever i run into a good deal

Well you should be fine with the Bilsteins, I have them on my 99 and my 01, but you should get the upper shock mounts replaced at the same time. Go to rmeuropean and look for the ones that are like $36 a set, money, well spent. Bilsteins will Blow out the old ones
