My spark plugs fried and i need an alternative Spark plug to the OEM. Would a single Prong work?

theoretically yes. but just don't get Platinum plugs. Some people have them with no problems, countless others their cars skip and misfire like crazy.

Welcome to Bimmerforums.

I'm not sure why you want non-OE. I also don't know what year your car is. You should include that info up in the car info line at the top, right hand side of your posts.
Here are some plugs that I would recommend for your car.

They might be for the wrong year. I just took a guess since the iT was on the list for 1999.

You're good to go with NGK. Use their website part finder.

Single prong iridium plugs from NGK. Much hotter and more precise spark, but they do have a shorter lifespan than nickel and platinum plugs. Worth it imo.

I have '97 540.
I see there is a special for the NGK BKR6EQUP. I'm believe these will work for my car.
But can anyone tell me what the difference is between this one NGK BKR6EK?
Which is better to use and why or it does not matter?

i use platinum with no problems, equivelant to OE and was recommended..the argument as to "why would you not use OE" can be applied to alot of things..headlights, taillights, exhaust, intakes, ecu software etc..it IS your car.
