I'm looking at a 1999 M3 coupe black 5 speed, with 43,607 miles.
They are asking $21,995 for it, is that to much? edmunds, kbb, and nada prices are all over the place. I can't really find another m3 in the area with that low of miles. What do you guys think?
Thanks
~Matt

that is very low mileage, but I think that price is on the high end.

16-18 would be more reasonable. but it all depends on the condition :)

22k is way too much. That's nearing e46 m3 territory there. Try 15 or so. Sure the mileage is low, but cars don't scale up infinitely in price.

condition is almost flawless.. driver headlight doesnt seem to line up correctly with corner light and the area on the dash by where you knee looks a little worn. But everything else still seems new even the driver seat. Also has a Dinan intake.

Prolly the 17.8k-19.5k range is more realistic.

I'd say that's ridiculous. I never understood why the M3's are still going for so much, the E36's that is. It's nearing 10 years old, and is 44K deep already (fairly young overall for a BMW). Still, as others have said, the fact you can get an updated look and 100 more HP for just a few K more at that price, really should make you want to shop around a little more before diving in.
I would start at 16-17K and see where things go. Also, are their any after market or non stock pieces? I can't imagine why else it would be so expensive, besides the fact that your being ripped off.
Oh, and the new M3's (E90+E92) have landed in America, so that should provide leverage for bartering a bit.

Thanks guys! Lets hope I get it. I checked it out last night and they weren't working with me on the price I low balled them 17K and they dropped down to 20K ...wow... and I said forget it and walked out. I thought they would come running out but they didn't..
Then today the salesman called me asking me to come back in so they can talk about the price of the car.

Dinan intake and strut bar is the only aftermarket part I found on the vehicle.

This is why i hate stupid dealers and their mind games. Tell them that for 27k you can buy a 04 m3 with less than 100k miles. I think a lot of these guys use the m badge as some kind of ploy to overcharge. Even if it's really that flawless, 17k should cover it. Look on the for sale part of these forums and see how much these m3s are going for. Hell, you could even find a better one from a private owner.

I never understand why people pay so much for these either. Think about it like this. You could BUILD your own M3 for about $22K just the way you like and be certain it's perfect since you're the one putting the parts in! There is no mystery whatsoever, no hidden damage risk, just a mint M3
A chassis for $1k, interior for $3k (for brand spanking new looking interior), engine, transmission and clutch for probably $10k. Wheels, suspension, etc... for about $3k and you're at $17k. Superfly paint job and you're at 20k.
Even if you start with a crappy condition M3 for something like $8k, do you really think that you'll need to spend $14k to get it in good condition?
I'd say $17k is reasonable for the car. 18k if you feel confident that it's perfect

The fact that you're buying it from a dealership. 17-18k is still overpriced. 15-16.5 is the most I'd go for.

Nope, you are just doing your job. Stick with 18k, if he doesn't ever get there it's not meant to be. I'd still rock a low-mileage mint E36M3 for 18k, its a hell of a car. You'll easily find a nice E46 for 25k, so don't budge.

Yea, I dont think he's happy. Hahahaha he called me again like he did me a favor. Saying the lowest they could do is 19.5K without them losing money. I laughed and said if they can't do 18K I'll have no problem buying from somewhere else, and he actually said ok fine thanks, and hung up. Nice Mercedes Benz salesman for you.
Anyways I found a 98 m3 sedan for 17.5 from a private owner with only 57,000 miles. Probably going to check that out.

There you go, that's more like it. Always happy to see people turning away from used car dealers. You can bet they got that car as a trade in for like 10k at the most. There's plenty of private enthousiast owners who are better to deal with. Good luck with your purchase.
