So I've Heard Good And Bad Sides Of Using Oem Sach Sport Shocks/struts With Lowering Springs. Anyone Out There Actually Used Lowering Springs With Sachs Sport Shocks For Several Months? Do The Shocks Hold Up? How's The Ride? I Just Ordered Intrax Springs With Sachs Sport Shocks. I Hope It Will Be A Nice Ride. Anyone That Got Some 411 On This Topic Please Reply. Bilsteins Are To Harsh Of A Ride For Me, And Konis Are Out Of My Price Range. Thanks.

i bought brand new sachs from bavauto, guess i will have to get my freakin' refund. i thought it was gonna be all good cuz i read from several people on the forum and they said there was no problems with lowering springs and sach sport shocks. SUCKS...i guess bilsteins it is..........

thanks for all the input ya'll, i think imma just go with the koni fsd. anyone know a good place to get them cheap??? i found a place for $730.

Im Looking For Koni Fsd's. Someone Said Eric Can Get Them For $686 But When I Called Him He Said That They Were $730. Anyone Know A Place Where I Can Get The Shocks And Struts (without The Springs) For Less. Please Hook A Playa Up If You Know A Place That Has Them For Cheap. Thanks.

How old are the sachs? If you car has over 80 k and they are original, they are SHOT! Also I know from very close friends that the factory sport shocks cant handle lowering springs. It does work the other way around with using factory sport SPRINGS with after market shocks/struts.

Gumbi speaks the truth. My sachs sports shocks were fine until I lowered my car. The rears only lasted about 6k more miles after that. At the time, my car had like 35k miles on it. Take it for face value. It might have been a coincidence. :dunno

I don't see a problem with using lowering springs, with brand new Sachs Sport shocks/struts. It seems like the experiences with premature failure, posted above, were with old fatigued shocks/struts. The lowering springs probably just wore them down quicker.

Do you have first hand experience? Why dont you see a problem? The Sachs WILL go bad much quickly if new. If the sachs are already old, they are already bad.

But the OP is talking about using NEW sport shocks/struts. Have you had first hand experience with NEW shocks/struts with lowering springs?

Yes I have! New sachs shocks will last you maybe to 60k. With lowering springs you will get no more then 15k out of them.

You should be just fine. I have a first hand experience with simular setup. My old 528i had oem Boge non-sport shocks/struts with Eibach springs for YEARS, I never had any problems with this setup.

There's a member on this forum that has OEM sport shocks/struts, with OEM sport springs that were cut. He had 2 coils removed from the springs to further lower his car. Removing a couple of coils off of the OEM sport springs increases spring rate. From what I remember, he had no problems with his car, whatsoever. **If the owner of this vehicle is reading this, please chime in**

Sport Sach's shocks were already made for OEM lowering springs. Intrax doesn't provide a significant "drop" over OEM sport springs. So, why would there be a problem?

They might seem fine to you but I bet when you pulled them out (if you did) they would be shot.

You are talking about Franka. He is the person who cut the springs. It all depends on how you run your setup. Eibachs are the ones with the most chance of screwing up the shocks. To each their own but im telling you from what i have experienced and many around me. Just because you dont feel anything does not mean the shocks are still good. I took mine out and they were horrible and I would never have thought they were bad.

You right they were shot. They lasted for nearly 100K with Eibach springs.

What's your definition of 'lasting'?

I had NEW Sachs OEM sport struts on the front of my car for ~10k miles before I put the FSDs on. They were junk when I took them off.

I have H&R on mine, installed them with my OEM shocks at 52K miles...it has 66000 now and they are fine.

I will get Bilstiens soon though...

+1, those shocks probably went bad at 50 k and you probably never noticed them till you took them off.

just went thru a similar situation not to long ago. Installed H&R's on brand new sach struts. Loved the ride, and the look,(real aggressive).Drivers side went out completely after three months. I just recently put on bilsteins. Was not happy with the immediate look, sat higher than before, my mechanic assured me it would go down.sachs felt alot better to me than these billsteins, nore comfy ride, not as bouncy like now.

Vogtland springs on used oem sports here and 20k trouble free miles, ride still better than the old 50k mile oem non sport setup that was on the car b4. My shocks were ebay specials so I have no idea what the actual mileage is on them. Unless you are using a super lowered spring the shock will be operating in an almost identical environment to what it would be with OEM sport springs. I think you will be just fine with what you have.

If I install Bilstein HD struts and shocks on my non-sport, non-air bag, wagon then later install new springs lowering the car am I then going to screw up the struts/shocks? What would the consequences of installing sport struts and shocks first, then changing the springs later?
