View Full Version : What happens when you run directional tires in a non-directional way?

I've put 5 DE's on my Kumho Ecsta MX tires. They still look great, but the left side is a little more worn. Can I run these tires on the track in a non-directional set-up? Swap the left tires w/ the right tires. All I've heard is dont run this non-directional setup in the rain.
This is what I want to do:
LF on the RR
LR on the RF
RF on the LR
RR on the LF
EDIT: Forgot to mention, I took her out Monday night after work. She felt squirrely right before I shifted up. This happened in 2nd/3rd/4th and 5th. Does this mean something is moving inside the tire or the thread is not gripping like it was designed to do?
Thanks.

Yes, I'm in the same situation with my Neovas, and plan to do something similar--my left side tires have blisters on their outside shoulders, will move them to the right side for an April DE. I suspect that for dry track purposes, we'll be fine. Directional tires running in the opposite direction makes them less efficient at sweeping water away from the tire surface, but in the dry that's a nonissue. I've read that E36 M3s don't take well to tire rotations. I suspect the tires need to run at their respective positions before they feel "normal" on the car again. Good luck!

Same thing as if you go over the bar on the swing at the park. Instant death and nuclear fusion of all matter on earth. Don't do it.

just took her out for a 9 mile loop, got her up to 115mph on a great back road. did a lot of up/down shifting. drove her back home. waited 15 minutes and tested the air pressure, 40lbs. all around. too high.
but i still notice/feel the car bend/twitch a little when getting on it. maybe a squirrel was a little much. i made a right hand turn into my neighborhood and there was a bit of understeer on an off-camber curve.
this is the first time since dec 1/2 i've driven on these tires. my daily tire is a pirelli pzeronero.
could bushings give me this kind of thing? they do need to be changed.
