Short version...

Brake rotors are worn badly. Need new ones.

Ordered new ones from Bavauto (couldn't be better customer service)

UPS lost my order. (couldn't be worse customer service)

BAVauto sent me a replacement order, but one of the rotors is on back order so I won't get it until UPS finds the lost one and sends it back to them, and then Bav auto sends it back to me. (Did I mention I hate UPS?)

Then just to add insult to this problem, UPS called me and said they were staring at my package ( :pimpflash ) but couldn't turn it around and ship it back to me because it had two labels on it and they couldn't ensure that this was the merchandise I was supposed to get. That's despite that the box they were looking at was 38 lbs and 1ft cube just like it was supposed to be and the other label was for a small 3 lb box that OBVIOUSLY DIDN'T HAVE 2 HEAVY BRAKE ROTORS IN IT!!!! (Did I mention I hate UPS? Yes this thread is divided equally between getting the information I need and venting about how crappy UPS is)

So I've got one rotor coming to me tomorrow. But I need the other one like yesterday. I can't wait until next week.

If I got another aftermarket rotor from another manufacturer is it bad to mix them?

I'm not talking anything fancy. These aren't drilled or slotted rotors. Just basic round flat metal for street use.

Also...why are the left and right rotors different part numbers? They aren't slotted so what difference does it make which way they spin?

I would think that it would be fine to mix for normal street driving, i don't think you would ever know a difference. They are different because the cooling vanes are angled a certain way so that when it spins it gets the max cooling effect. Think of it like putting your ceiling fan on forward or reverse, same thing.

For street use it won't matter, but it depends how worn they are. If they are lipped, then I would be really concerned about stopping suddenly from high speeds. As far as different part numbers, the M3 rotors are vented and the vents are directional (so it matters which side you put them on)

Well I'm talking about two new rotors, just different brands. So they SHOULD be the same initial thickness, and the width shouldn't be a factor.

As for the way the fins are angled...I'm a little embarrassed that I didn't figure that out myself. Thanks for the answer. That was really confusing me!

I just need to pimp the guys at Bavarian Auto a bit here because they've really gone above and beyond to fix UPS' screw up.

Not only did they send me an entirely new order, but they put it next day shipping (I only paid for regular ground originally) since UPS took so long to get this sorted out.

This is the first time I've had a problem with a BAV auto order so I don't know if I just caught them on a good day or not, but their customer service really stepped up to the plate.

Also, they told me that they switched to UPS because FedEx was more expensive, but that their calls about screwed up orders went up dramatically when UPS took over.

Thought I'd toss that in for good measure.
