buy the TMS kit to shore this up NOW, while its off the car.

If you can't weld, bring it to a local machine shop or welding shop.

It is totally worth the small price, and you'll never have to worry about the problem again.

Some model years of crossmembers are actually pre-drilled, (even the M3 I think) to accept an engine mount twisted in a different angle to accomodate other engines.... (perhaps 4 bangers?)

These extra holes for the set pin of the engine mount actually can behave like perforations on computer paper to weaken the part, and lead to failure. Just slapping big washers above and below is NOT the right way to prevent failure, or prevent worsening of an existing cracking part. Buy the TMS kit, and do it right. (now before its put on your car)

Sometimes we lose sight of the forest for the trees, and just fixate on replacing what is broken instead of looking into not just why it broke (*) but also how to prevent it in the future.

(*)speaking of which, have your mechanic double check your motor mounts, a bad mount is hard to spot until its not weighted, and having the engine bouncing up and down will take out a stock crossmember)

We are replacing lots of stuff while we're in there. The front wishbones w/ ball joints haven't been replaced in 6 yrs, the LCA bushings, the engine mounts.
