Almost embarrassed to ask but… (headlight question)

Can someone explain to me the different headlights that came on E39’s. What type were there, what were they called, what models came with what and what was produced during different years. I know I just asked a lot so maybe my specific issue will be easier to answer. I need to know what type/model/name of headlights I have on my car. I have a 2000 540i 6spd. The headlights on the car are OEM but are NOT original for my car. They are projectors (it has that glass ball looking thing for the low beam) and are not HID (regular H7 bulb). Someone told me once that they are from a 530. Can you let me know what type of headlights I have. Also I have a sensor on my control arm that looks like it’s a sensor for leveling HID’s, does that mean my car is wired for the setup and I just need to get different headlights. Sorry for writing so much, thanks guys.

P.S. the reason I’m asking is I need to get a set of new bulb harnesses and I can’t figure out the part # I need

You have 01+ halogen headlights. Someone degraded your car's light output in order to have cool looks.

you can get an hid kit cheap enough though.

50w prolumen kit would do wonders! better than oem.

I just got the HID kit from the BavToys group buy. As I read in the install instructions I have to modify the bulb harness. I want to keep the stock one just in case so now I’m in search of the part #
Is there a "name" / model # for my headlights of some sort or they are called 01+ halogen

If you just need the wiring that connects to the halogen bulb autozone carries the regular sizes, h7, 9006, etc.

If you have H7 connectors then you should be fine...
My H7 connectors plug right into my prolumen kit...
