Just got a scanner and pulled 4 codes off the OBD2-2003 BMW Z4 -2.5liter
P0340 , P1339, P0365, P1318--- I know the generic P0 codes are Camshaft position Sensor A and Sensor B bank 1 but I have no clue what the P1 codes mean.I have a Chilton repair manual that only lists the generic.I don't what to start throwing parts in if I don't have all the info.Any ideas or info would be helpful. The car has been starting up and cuts out right away.It takes like 5 times turning it over before it runs ....I know there was a fuel hydrolock problem with these years.....I don't know if the recall work was performed on my car.

HEY I FOUND OUT WHAT THOSE FAULT CODES ARE.
P1339 - Camshaft Position Sensor 'B' Faulty Phase Position (Bank 1)
P1318 - Camshaft Position Sensor 'B' Circuit Signal Duration after Initialization (Bank 1)
HOPE THIS HELPS SOME.

Thanks...It took me like 4 hr.s yesterday to find 2 of the codes.....I think I'm gonna bring it to the dealer,it is still covered by the CPO until 2009-I think I have a faulty camshaft sensor in bank 1 which is causing the misfire and the other faults follow...where did you happen to find those codes? They seem to be BMW specific -my scanner had no info, nor did the Chilton Manual. Thanks

I Work For Bmw. I Have Access To Dealerspeed And Can Search Fault Codes. So I Just Looked Them Up Really Quick.

Cam position sensors won't typically cause misfires.

Not sure if it was really a misfire-the dealer replaced both the Intake and the Exhaust cam sensors...covered it under the CPO-the car would fire and die immediately...I scanned it and it came up with 4 codes- now its clean and runs like a champ...

Cam position sensors won't typically cause misfires.you are right I just had an exhaust position sensor and it did not misfire, just the check engine light came on and sometimes black smoke on start-ups and rough idle. After clearing the code everything is back to normal like new and I did not even replace the faulty sensor just jiggled the connector a bit.
Eventually I may have to replace the sensor.
