Regular, premium, etc. Also what does a 2.5 need?

93 octane here. I am running a chip, so I really don't care to try anything less. :)

All M engines require 91 octane. Jim C and Pete McHenry chips require 93 octane to prevent pinging.

I avoid Exxon gas in Northern VA. My JimC chipped M3 and M5 suffered pinging with the stuff. I liked Sunoco 94 octane, but there's no station close by. Amoco is recommended by Steeda Mustang tuners.

stupid question:
what would that gas be considered at the pump?
premium?

Outside of Commie Cali, 87 is regular, 89 is mid-grade, and 92 or 93 are premium. CA considers their 91 octane gasohol premium. Sunoco sells 94 ultra at most stations, and some Sunocos and 76 stations have 100 unleaded. You can get 104 low-lead aviation fuel, too, and 104 octane leaded "Cam-2" in some areas, generally the South.

just go with premium and dont take any chances. Here in winston-salem there is an Exxon sellin it for $1.52 a gallon.

I always use 93 octane or higher in my car. My chip (an old Dinan chip) requires 91 octane minimum. My car like Amoco 93 best, followed by Mobil. At the track, I always add 4 or 5 gallons of 100 octane unleaded racing gas as an added measure of safety.

Good idea, because a few seconds of pinging at the track can ruin your day!!!!
