call it what you want.. I still want a wide grille c/f hood. I would also like a rear decklid if they would make it.

Me too, I'd paint it.... most of it.... maybe.

I'd only use that if my e34 were a race car. The only reason to roll with CF is for removing weight and increased acceleration.

every little bit makes it handle better too. :buttrock

Thats a good mod for these if you have it. This just doesnt seem to be as modable of a car as a 3 series.

Difficult for an E34 to wear this. Maybe you could stick some chopsticks in the roundel grommet holes.

believe me if it was available for the wide grille i would already have it. Definitely not as moddable as a 3 series... there is hardly anything available... that being said it is fun showing up and putting up #'s at autocrosses that noone expects.

exactly, I dont understand all the ricer comments, this hood will do the aforementioned above, which meeans it is a fuctional piece, not a just for looks.

I would paint it also, I wonder what the quality/fitment is like.

I think Lee got one. It is the Erebuni piece so I doubt it is the absolute highest quality carbon fiber... but it is pretty reasonable and considerably lighter than stock.

If its made with Polyester resin its not even worth it to paint.:nono....unless its for a garaged trailer queen ,that is,;)...good luck with the heat warp.

I have always thought a carbon-kevlar hood and trunk would look good with my 2002 BMW Oxford Green metallic paint job. But thats just me :D

I would deffinately rock a carbon fiber hood, It would all be painted except for the two raised parts that run up the hood.

What kind of weight savings are we talking, anyway?

I'd never want one looking like that, but if I run out of things to spend money on (hah), CF bodyparts wouldn't be out of the question.

What's wrong with polyester resin (and what is it, anyway)?

Oxford Green is the new hottness! Its pretty serious. I like the carbon fiber hood, love it when I had one on my EF civic. I was thinking about getting these just not cheapos if only i could find nice ones:

don't quote me but I would guess that the weight savings are somewhere in the 40lb range.

That'd look good with the black Roundel, or even the CF roundel.

I want an unpainted one:eyecrazy

I've often thought about switching to a narrow grill to get one.

It would go with my carbon roundels

To be honest I bought it and plan on painting it when the car eventually gets srayed but on black you don't even notice it.
For all the haters maybe consider it weights less than half of a stock hood might change your mind. BTW I payed way less than $500 but erebuni considered mine a blemish

What's wrong with polyester resin (and what is it, anyway)?

Pol resins are not very stable within the confines of engine heat and the sun UV rays. Once in the sun for each exposedUV ccle the material begins to degrade....first by yellowing of the resin clear. Then delaminating and pitting.
Warpage and sag are the most common issues with Polyester resins on ca parts.

I will say though Lee.....its looks great ! Are the fender gaps as nie as a metal hood ??

How much did the stock hood end up weighing? I was going to make a fiberglass hood, but damn, that actually looks good :cool

it'll look good on a green E34, not the others...not even black

As for the weight, I know I have some pics of both hoods on the bathroom scale but on the old computer. Ill see if I can dig em up. The weight savings on this hood is a little more than 1/2.

If its a FULL carbon hood ( which I doubt @ under 1000$)...it would be 2/3's less the steel counterpart.
Being that its most likely a F-glass sub and skin with a CF layer for looks.....it could actually weigh in the same undressed.
