View Full Version : From project car to parts car in oh... 4 hours?

So for those paying attention I picked up a white on black 525iA a month or two ago. Got it for a song, it wasn't running though. Had it towed to the shop, where after hours of trying I nailed it to a bad head gasket. Got the parts, cleaned up the head, new Tbelt, water pump and HG later it turns out the bottom end is toast. Still got the bottom end in the other parts car, was thinking about mix-n-matching them to put a motor together, until last night that is.

The white car has/had grey carpets, the blue car (the one I'm keeping) has a blue interior. I've got almost everything done in suede for the blue car now, silver suede to match my Vadars. A blue carpet would not work with that, so I decided to swap the interiors.

Well. Let's just say I got a little carried away. When I found out that it was either a mattor of cutting the carpet to get it out, or removing the entire HVAC box, I lost my marbles and removed. IT. ALL. It was fun, I got to figure out how it all comes apart. I'll be cutting the carpet in the blue car, not going that route again. Once I got to the point where it was time to take everything out I had an epiphany. Between Redfive's red car and black car, and my blue car, I've got a ton of work cut out for me over the next few months. I don't need another project car of my own that's going to give me a little reward when it's done (car running and sold), but I can part it out now, get rid of it, and make a couple buckets on the quick.

The car is Alpinewhite II, seats are pretty rough but armrests and headrests (front only) are good. Rear seat is taken, carpet is gone (obviously). Bottom end is trash, tranny good. Front bumper has a crack that's fixable, rear bumper is good. I don't know about the fogs, they may be good, may not. Headlights look ok but I've never used 'em so I can't vouch. I'll have pics up soon, the battery died in my camera so I could only snap one pic of the interior.

Make offers, don't hesitate to lowball me on it, I want the parts gone and gone quickly. It has a 4.10 LSD. Engine is m20.

Door panels I'm keeping.

Ask questions. Make offers. Look at the pics when I get them up. To those that ask where the pics are, I haven't got them up yet.

You can get a bumper-box from a body shop, then ship it UPS. That's how I got my front.

=)

Huh... not a bad idea. I'll see if I can get an estimate in the next day or so. You need the bumper cover or the whole shebang?

Front bumper has a crack. It's very fixable, but I just want to be up front about it. It will need to be repaired and painted. I'll have pics up whenever photobucket decides to start working again.

shrike and binjammin, if you don't mind sharing the shipping costs, i have a bumper on my other car that i don't like and would like to sell, but i have no idea what shipping would cost and i'd like to post it on ebay with a rough shipping quote.

thanks for the box suggestion, i'll have to check with a body shop and see if i can pick one up!

i love stumbling across random useful information!

It took me a minute to figure this out. I thought you were talking about selling him your bumper and I share the shipping cost... I was like... "that doesn't help me very much". :confused

Yeah, I'll post shipping info for you as soon as I have it.

I guess you don't have enough posts for me to be able to pm you yet, but here's the deal. I don't know if the door has any rust on the bottom or not. I have another parts car that's bronzitbeige, it's probably rust free as that car was repainted at some point. If you want to have the bronzit door repainted I can sell you that one, or if the white car's rust free you can have that one. If the white car DOES have rust, it's in the usual place, at the bottom of the door under the trim.

If I send the door, it's going to be a bare door, I'll pull the regulator and glass, mirror, and handle. It'll make it cheaper to ship, and you can just reuse that stuff from your car. Let me know what you want to do, I'll give you a price after that.

Thanks for the quick reply. I would like to have the white one if it still in usable shape. My poor car was recently hit on that door and is Alpinewhite II. The car dosnt have the best paint in the world so im trying to stay away from a partial repaint. Im hoping to find a decent "weathered" door, and polish the entire car to match.
Thanks for the help.

Well, then this is your door. It's got minor rust that's pretty hidden behind the bottom trim. I'd recommend getting a new trim piece. There's a black trim strip in the middle of the door on the outside, do you need that too? With trim let's say $75 + shipping,

Without we'll say $50 plus shipping.

No glass, no regulator, no door handle, you'll have to swap all that over, but it's not too hard.

Actually, I might as well leave the regulator in, it needs to have the rivets drilled out and that's a pain. No extra charge for it other than what you'll pay extra in shipping. Let me know if that works for you.

Interested in headlights (both highbeam and lowbeam, drivers and passangers). I don't care about the electronics, so just the mechanicals. As you can see from my sig, I am sick of free-forms and need some candidates for HIDs :) 92083 $50?

I only get to check the forums like once a day if that, so PM me :)

1965 Calais 4 door hardtop. No B-pillar, put all 4 windows down and it's like a coupe. Hopefully by the time you figure out what other parts you need you'll be able to send PMs. I'll take more pics tomorrow. I forgot the effing SD card for the camera today, was great having a camera and not being able to take pics :rolleyes

Hey dude, good seeing you guys today, sorry I couldn't stick around longer, it would have been cool to grab a bite or go for a drive or something, but let me tell you, the rest of the afternoon has seriously sucked. I managed to lose a blank check from the dealership. Stop payment here we come :(

To all those who have paid for parts and are asking about when things will ship, please bear with me. I work alone at night pulling the parts, and the weather has prevented me from being able to do that for the past several days. I'm hoping to get the cars into the shop tonight to take parts off and ship. Sorry for any inconvenience this has caused, it's been pretty inconvenient for me too, thanks for understanding.
